Is that taking into accounts families who might be able to sit right next to each other?

I don't suppose it matters, actually, it will be too hard to do until the government just say we can go into open air arenas - which isn't particularly unlikely, given there was debate about whether they needed to be closed in the first place.

Not sure what you mean by game on a knife edge. Is it one of them where we've miraculously limited the opposition to one goal, just had our first shot in the 85th minute and we entertain some mild hopes that we might just spawn a draw.

Well looking at that the set up seemed somewhat ‘random’ in respect of Social Distancing.

This shot from behind one of the goals, suggests a fairly packed area. However the sides of the ground are sparsely filled and the top tier seems completely empty!

Another shot showing one side. There seem to be ‘clusters’ sat together.

Another shot. This is after a goal was scored. Showing the fans behind the goal. In the words of Jim Royle, ‘Social Distancing......My Arse’!

Apparently the ones behind the goal were all from the same household. ;)

Immediately it would change how we should think about lifting lockdown: a tube carriage in London might in theory have to be restricted to 15% capacity to maintain social distancing of 2 metres, but if, as Professor Friston believes, the susceptible population in London was only ever 26% and 80% or more of that group is now provably immune via antibody testing, you can put a lot more people in a tube carriage without increasing the level of risk. Ditto restaurants, pubs, theatres and most recently, MPs in parliament. It would question the whole idea of social distancing being a feature of any “new normal”.

Solution to the social distancing dilemma at Valley Parade , why not start the season with the EFL Trophy matches ? A match against Stoke U23s would guarantee no one would sit anywhere near you.

My wife would be sat near me in the living room, because football starved or not, an EFL trophy game would not tempt me back!

"Rugby union is another sport trying to map out how it will look after the coronavirus pandemic. The RFU is seeking clarity on whether the physical distancing rule can be reduced from two metres to one so they can admit 40,000 fans into Twickenham Stadium for the November internationals. That would still be well below Twickenham's 82,000 capacity."

From same link - 15000 people with 1m spacing and mostly no masks:

"Thousands of people have marched through Denmark’s capital, Copenhagen, to protest against racism and police brutality in the US. Police estimate that 15,000 people turned out for the demonstrations which began outside the US embassy. The organisers asked participants to observe social-distancing guidelines. In this country, that means keeping one metre (3ft) apart. At times, the protest was crowded. Many participants also wore face masks, which is unusual to see in Denmark."

If there's no spike from all these protests, then we should be trailling 1m spacing at sports events. We should see spikes in low European levels from the end of the coming week. If not, we should let some fans back into Premier League and Championship matches to help us plan the start of next season.

I heard one got angry and dropped a sweet wrapper.

Police thanked demonstrators for an orderly rally.

Australia to allow 10,000-person gatherings in July

Prime Minister Scott Morrison has just announced the proposal - which will largely benefit sporting matches.
He said mid-sized stadiums would be able to have a quarter of their 40,000 seats filled - and the same goes for outdoor cultural events.
Crowds will be allowed if patrons are ticketed and seated, and maintain a 1.5m (4.9ft) distance. Australia's football codes have been lobbying hard in recent weeks for spectators to return to stadiums.
The allowance falls under Stage 3 - the final phase of the country's plan to come out of lockdown.
Authorities have also revised a 100-person cap for indoor spaces (workplaces, weddings, funerals) in favour of a four square metres per person rule.
