I do think that is most likely that the FA will kick them out - especially as the game was 0-0 and all 3 of their goals were scored by subs.
The only thing that might save them is if it is true that we also tried to make a 6th sub (Lavery) but the fourth official blocked it. In that case they might be able to argue that both clubs thought it was 6 subs and would've broken the rules if allowed. Even then though, I think that's going to be difficult to argue

Not sure mate but looking at this screen shot he left the referee very little option but to give him another yellow followed by a red, in fact looking at it maybe it was a straight red very silly challenge especially when he's already on a yellow and right in the referees line of sight.

Well the substitution of Matt Jay , had a massive impact on the game, so the FA have to throw them out. Unfortunate for them, but rules are rules.
If they do not uphold them, then why don't we put the subs on and not take anyone off on Saturday. Probably still struggle to win with14 men though.

How can a club not reasonably know how many substitutions its made? I can't see any basis by which that could be argued?

 

I don't think ignorance of the law is any defence.

 

You cannot have a situation where clubs can look to bend / break rules on purpose and then claim ‘they didn’t know’
There can be no other outcome other than throwing them out.
However that might not mean we are re-instated. It might just mean Cambridge get a bye

 

Just checked the highlights it wasn't one their subs, it was Kite number 29.

 

If Exeter have no justifiable defence, the match has to be awarded to City. There has to be a deterrent if rules are broken, especially as the substitution had a material effect on the result.

 

Exeter also made their 5 subs during normal time at 4 different times, again that flouts the rule that have to be made no more than 3 different times
