Which in a perverse way has me hoping they are well established in the top 7 come January - In that they may place all their eggs in one basket, just to secure his services. This should in no way hinder Citys chances, because if we truly are good enough, then we'll finish above them, anyway. Besides, there are four places up for grabs !! As has been previously indicated - We'll see, huh ?

You questioned his "application", for me that's the same as work rate and effort and very far from questioning the contribution he made.

A difference of opinions, I suppose. You have yours, as I have mine.

    It isn't really Ron.

Application refers to work rate, effort and desire. It's never been used as a term to solely describe the end contribution.

Anyway, my point was that I don't believe Doyle lacked any sort of "application" during his time at the club and his was chronically missed used.

    I'll leave it there.

Hope he keeps banging in the goals, come January we can sell him on at a decent price and take the money and run, plus we save on his wages.
It's a win win situation for us

Who can we sell him on to given that Swindon have openly said they can't even afford his wages, let alone a transfer fee and he's already played for two clubs this season so can't play for anyone else?

The best solution, if we can afford it, is to get rid of the pointless loan signing we have up front and bring Doyle back in. As we've seen, utilised properly he'll score goals.

I think even the most glass half full player and full of confidence type of guy would have been shattered and fed up with the workplace aka Valley parade 2018-19 season...... Strikers are 80 percent confidence and service.

Today's Swindon Adveriser website has an article on Doyle's loan. He wants to stay there but Wellens is scouting a possible replacement for January in case City recall him.
Sorry I can't post the link.

You cannot blame Doyle for wanting to stay there to be honest. If he does, which I think likely, I hope we re-negotiate the terms of the loan, as Huddersfield did with us last season with Payne

City remaining tight lipped on his future. Wellens seems panicky.

Basically we can recall, probably will and certainly should. He is our player, sod Swindon.

Dont blame him at all. He has to look after himself and he'll boost his career and financial prospects more with a prolific season there.

Bowyer clearly looks for his front men to be 'team players'. Defend from the front, work the channels, do the ugly stuff.

Swindon play to Doyle's strengths, keeping him in and around the box, playing the ball into him from wide and down the sides of centre backs- they dont ask him to come deep or battle with centre halves. His record shows that if you play a certain way he'll get goals. We should keep in mind though that whilst hes having a better season than any of our strikers individually, we're higher in the league and we looked a better side when we played them.

I think Vaughan will become more prolific when hes had a few games in our best side. That said, for a cost of 60k or thereabouts, we have to bring Doyle back and give ourselves that option to play a different way and have an in form striker in the squad. Could push Vaughan on in terms of performance too.

More likely if they were near the bottom but they are a promotion rival.

He needs to come back to weaken them and strengthen us.

Agreed. Much depends on the player though. If hes reluctant to come back, do we bring him back?

We pay his wages. He has to.

Bowyer should put an arm around him and put him as first name on the team sheet imo.

I agree. He can play the 'its a totally different club now' card too. Doyle has only ever know a city that's toxic. I think the atmosphere around the club would be very different now. But it would hinge on Bowyer showing him some love and assuring him of a run in the side.

Personally I think much will hinge on Vaughan's form over the next 2 months.

Is there a more Bradford City thing than Europe's most in form striker being someone we're paying to score goals for somebody else?

If ever anything summed us up.

I have suggested that the way forward is for Swindon to offer Doyle an 18/30 month Contract in January. Probably on lower terms than he currently is on, but with the benefit of longevity both financial and psychological. If his strike rate stutters or dries up, or he suffers a serious injury, then come then end of the season he could be a 32 year old with very reduced prospects, perhaps similar to Billy Clarke! If he loves Swindon, he should ask his agent to negotiate a deal.
That would then free us up to look for a fresh striker, perhaps a loan to the end of the season, if we can satisfy the FA/EFL rules.

He left on 16/8/2019 having (foolishly) played three games for us. I really do not think that the club has become totally ‘different’ in the 10 weeks since he went out on loan!
