That could mean several things. They might be able to commit to the bulk of his wages for one season but not perhaps for a longer contract the player might be looking for. Alternatively, given that he was under contract to us for another season, it could refer to an inability to pay a transfer fee as well as wages. Who knows.

It was said on Radio Leeds before a home game a while ago, and although I didn't hear it clearly I thought the presenter said we were paying a large percentage, if Swindon are paying the bulk of his wages no point in a recall.

Every point. They're not paying 100% of his wages and he is leading goalscorer for them and in the league.

They'll soon back down as they will have aims of going up themselves and if he stays here then fine.

Mr Rupp and Mr Rhodes will have to gamble a season and if they will want to go up then this is certainly the season to do it as this league is awful.

Yeah but that was before he was their top scorer and probably first name on the team sheet player. They, and definitely their fans, aren’t going to want to let him go.

errrrr, ............Yeah....... So what MN ?
WHEN did ANY Manager........... at City (particularly GB) play Doyle that way ? It's always been kick and hoof, and rarely to feet. :(
Holy schitt, as good as I was, I too struggled against great big B4st4ards in their half, but also, coped so well, when at my feet, and 'something' I could run on to, at a better pace - without needing to turn, and run.
Christ - Even when 2 or 3 against me (on the wing) - I had the imagination to spread the ball wide to the OTHER side of the damn pitch, at half way, so my team got an advantage in numbers. DOYLE couldn't even THINK of that, let alone try ! It's NEVER been Rocket Science, ya know ? ;)
If you can bring others 'in to play', then it's almost as good as a goal (yourself), if they score. Perhaps others on here will now recognise why The Don is so important ?

They might be struggling for goals individually but team wise, we are doing ok. I'm not suggesting we should rest on our laurels and I'd love it if our forwards were banging them in for fun, but I'd rather be in a situation where goals are coming from all over the pitch than being reliant on a couple of strikers like Swindon are.

I was meaning more that Wellens knows all about Doyle and his game Swindon were obviously short up top so asked the question (maybe Doyle's agent spread the word he wasn't happy here) to get one of our top earners of the books said we'd pay a good % of his wages.
Yes I don't think the Swindon fans will be happy if there is talk of him leaving in January especially if they are still up there, then it's a matter of will they call our bluff or pay up as you say not wanting to have a rebellion from their fans.

    I'm lost.

Are you trying to suggest you're a better player than Eoin Doyle?

Who did you play for Ronnie? Seems you liked the "Hollywood" ball :) I don't think we've got anyone good enough to spray the ball from one side of the pitch to the other. Especially with three on them.

The secret is to do it as they arrive, not after (which is about the halfway line). ;)

    Not at all, he's a pro - I never got that far. Did I apply myself better ? ..... Now there's a question ........

Doyle is a goal scoring No10 always has been and always will be, Playing him up front by himself and leading the line was a huge mistake at City and never his game,

Agree that its good to share the goals around and not be reliant on 1 or 2 for the bulk of our goals. But would still be good to have a goalscoring striker to add to our squad nevertheless.

Like many I just find it so frustrating that one of our own players is that striker, but banging in them in for a rival instead

No idea but I've got no problem with Doyle's application while he was here.

I do. Doyle managed to run, and therefore sweat a bit - but did Sh4g all for the team. Sorry, mate.

His work rate was never a problem. He didn't 'battle' with centre halves and win free kicks with his back to goal like Vaughan, but that's not his game. But he kept working, despite being completely misused. And I saw him coming off in one game close to tears.

I never questioned his 'work rate' ....... Just his contribution. Played out of place, or not ....... Doyle didn't do enough - For the better good of the TEAM.
We can all run around and sweat a lot - but if you achieve nothing, then why bother, other than for 'show' ?

I think one thing we can all agree on is that Doyle must be on Championship wages despite being nowhere near Championship level in terms of ability.

The gamble we would take in keeping him is the same Rahic took last year in hoping he would fire us into the Championship.

    How wrong Edin was...

Swindon's interest in Doyle was pretty much made clear weeks before the season started, wasn't it?

I laughed at the idea they could afford Doyle.

    Clearly, they couldn't.
