How is it an empty net? Or do we just forget about the two defenders?

 

OK one defender who was on the back foot the other two defenders couldn't stop the shot on target he should have done better.

 

Aye, now play the clip on and see the defender do something he couldn't do again if he tried. Sometimes you just have to take your hat off to a great piece of defending, no matter how fortuitous.

 

First time I've seen that. Looks a very long way from an 'open goal' to me.

 

On Saturday it didn't stop McAtee finding the corner of the net with O'Connor, Miller and McGee to beat, yes it was a fluke they lad got the back of his foot/heel to it but he had the full goal to aim at.

 

Not sure what that's supposed to prove Dave. Lots of goals are scored every week that aren't open goals. Many of Doyle's goals for Swindon were far from simple tap ins.
But equally Doyle missed plenty for Swindon, probably some easier than that one.
The point is that at Swindon he was getting hatfulls of chances every game so it didn't matter that he missed some. With us he'll likely get a couple of chances per game if he's lucky, and Bowyer will expect him to score both.
I'm sick of hearing Bowyer bemoaning our missed chances. All teams miss chances. But teams that create lots of chances generally score more than those that create few. Rocket science it is not.

I was pointing out even though McAtee had 3 City players around him he found the net where as Doyle didn't, I would have thought from a striker who's scored 24 in half a season his confidence would have been sky high did he need to have another touch (I'm not sure he did) giving the lad Sendles-White chance to get into a position to get something on it to save a goal fluke or otherwise.

 

It's a great piece of defending but if Doyle treats him like a goalkeeper I bet he scores with a chip or a placed shot...

I get your point, but I bet Doyle would admit he should have scored and it's a pretty easy chance.

 

I think that is harsh. Are you saying he deliberately made it hard for himself?

 

Sorry @Onside but is that a serious question ?, I'm saying a striker who had 24 goals to his credit so far this season should have score that chance, even given he took two touches he had time to placed the ball wide of the defender in the middle of the goal.

 

So why didn’t he? It is weird he is scoring for fun at Swindon suddenly arrives back at VP and he is hesitant or unsure what to do. Having said that I don’t think the players are happy campers, so maybe he is missing Swindon who knows.

 

I too think some players are looking unhappy.

Not sure about Doyle though, he did very well on Saturday, but certain players look stressed if that's the right word

 

I don't know it's only my opinion as you can see many disagree, I would hope he thought he'd done the right thing by taking an extra touch to get a better strike on target.

 

It does seem like some of the players look deflated, like they're not sure what they're supposed to be doing. That translates itself to the match where on Saturday we never looked in control of the game at any stage. Something just doesn't feel right and i can't put my finger on it.

 

When we went two up on Saturday we had maybe 8 minutes of free football, then it went back to uncertain worrying about what I assume is an over focus on positional requirements or something.

Over burdened is how I'd describe it.

 

I think it is mostly down to the formation. As you mentioned before Mellor and to a lesser extent Wood are not comfortable as wing backs, they are full backs. On our right hand side Anthony O'Connor and Mellor ended up getting in each other's way. It was as if we had 2 full backs. I am sure they would be happier with a more conventional league two type set up and also one that was a bit more positive going forwards.

 

Swindon planning to make a new bid for him with a bonus if they get promoted. Still ain't over yet.

He will be a very happy man to return i should imagine

 

Hope it comes off then we can bring in two that we need a tough tackling forward thinking midfielder and a physical presence up front. Having said that I wouldn’t release him until Vaughan is back
