Managing fine? We've scored about 2 goals in 6 weeks. We need all the firepower we can get and we have the country's top scorer contracted to us. Only a maniac would not want him back in the squad. How can we go up if we don't score any goals? Not saying he'll score at the same rate but we need all the help we can up that end of the pitch and it would be a ludicrous decision to not put a hefty price tag on him or bring him home.

We might be seen as mugs if we don't bring
Doyle back but we'd be mugs if we do and don't
know how to play to his strengths.

We've had strikers in the past like John McGinley
who we thought would score for fun but it didn't
happen. We need a striker coach to assess the best
way to use Doyle if he comes back and that should
change game by game based on opposition strengths.

We don't have a good record of prolific strikers and
those we've had had a strike partner who made things
    happen.

Bring him back? Are you crazy? Think of the deficit. GCSE marketing students designing CityForFuckAll marketing campaigns don’t come cheap

Why tell a rival you’re recalling their top scorer giving them more time to find a replacement

We can be serious about promotion without taking him back. Remember, if he's scoring for Swindon he's also scoring against our promotion rivals, i.e. Plymouth last week

We've got Donaldson coming back, Devitt who can play an attacking role plus McCartan who often in L2 is better in the second half of the season - but perhaps instead of it costing £80K upwards for Doyle, use that money for other areas

I'm not convinced of Swindon regardless of who they've got. Their record against the Top 10 (before Saturday) was terrible - far worse than ours

Mine was just a guess either way. I've read about stories about recall clauses before and it's typical to start on the second week if the month with the deadline being the end of that week.

Surely we have to act before at least Thursday though if we do recall him. It wouldn't make sense to let him train all week at Swindon and then try and shoehorn him back in the side with very little notice.

Totally agree. Swindon need to pay all is wages, plus perhaps a fee or he returns to us. Pretty certain, that's what we will be doing, i.e. getting them to pay more

As for having him back in the squad, you need to remember that Bowyer has worked miracles getting rid of the toxic dressing room of last season. It's taken time for the likes of O'Donnell and Anthony O' to repair the damage of their part in the relegation.

Re-introducing, arguably the worst culprit, who recently has slated how we play and is supporting everything Swindon via Twitter etc, could be arguably "maniac".

Dressing rooms are not only about talent, but also togetherness and team spirit. Anyone thinking Doyle can breeze back into the squad and carry on as he's always wanted to be here is actually the "maniac". We're ticking around nicely. We're not in Scunthorpe or Walsall's position where then we would need some kind of bold gamble

I also think that we have players, back before the end of this month who can help with goal scoring

As I said, I trust Bowyer either way

Our needs for a striker are far less than their's. It might sound daft to say that, when you consider how free scoring they are - but they have a very average defence. We don't

Plus we've got Donaldson available soon. But let's not rely on that, we've also got an ever increasingly experienced Oteh and McCartan who tends to be better at L2 level (10 goals for Accrington after Xmas in 16/17) as the season goes on and seems now to be back to full fitness. Plus Devitt - imagine if he'd become available now, we'd had seen it as a good transfer window signing. If Ismail can stay fit and consistent a front 'four' of him Prichard, Connolly and Vaughan is potent enough for me at times, i.e. plenty of variety, but perhaps bring in a loan 'fox in the box' on better terms for us and who is keen to play for us

Nothing can be resolved until that window opens, they can't go back on an agreement as it probably breaks EFL rules or something like

Or trying to make City think they’re looking at alternatives so they don’t push the price up too much.

    Agreed.
The frustrating thing though, is that if he doesn't come back and a deal is agreed with Swindon, then no details will be released, and we'll have another 30 pages speculating what that deal was. There will also be another 30 pages saying how stupid we are, and another 40 pages each time he scores for Swindon :)

We need more strikers regardless. We only have one out and out striker at the moment in Doyle. 2 if you count Yates (which many wouldn't).

    :D .....Fair response ......

However ...... Although most of this thread is down to speculation, it would be good for us all to consider all aspects and possibilities before posting what I saw as a 'personal' choice, which is what yours suggested.
As I posted immediately beforehand .......... ONLY Doyle will know what is going on in his mind - even his agent may be struggling with all that ? I have posed a few questions, and the only thing I have speculated about was the timing of Doyles decision.
Having had a good weekend break - Mrs Doyle would have possibly been preoccupied' (this morning) with getting the kids ready for school, as well as their packed lunches, etc. Hardly a good time for Eoin to iron out any finer points with the missus ? :)

whatever happens there can be no excuses not to replace him immediately if he is staying with Swindon or as you say recall him quickly . We’ve known about it for long enough

I'm not sure you'd have the financial capability to sign doyle and one of Pitman and McNulty. One of whom is on championship wages, the other top end league 1 wages.

On the face of it, I agree with you. Power's a canny one. Neither McNulty nor Pitman have pulled up any trees this season (both have 11 appearances and both have scored 2) which is a very poor return compared to Yates, let alone Doyle. We'll all have to trust Cap'n Admin to do his best and negotiate a good deal for us!
