To be fair they were very good to say they are an u21 side. They looked pretty slick and their first goal was lightening from one end to the other. You have to remember this is probably one of the most well resourced clubs in the world who can cherry pick talent the world over. They had two performance analysts watching them as well.

Their best youth players were in the 1st squad against Preston.

Man City are not big on promoting youth so the performance analysts have one of the easiest jobs in the world.

I don't care one bit about this cup but we should be controlling a game like this but it just highlights how poor Akpan and Devine really are.

Which, as far as I can see, is our lowest gate ever for a recognised competition. (I hesitate to say recognised first-team match, though it'll go down as such!) Funny how the EFL Trophy under its various names features so prominently in our list of lowest ever attendances...

The FA need to get back to the traditional format and scrap letting the u21 teams in. The fans have voted with their feet .

Most of the u21 teams are pish.

If it wasn’t for this tin pot trophy, most of the squad wouldn’t get any game time whatsoever.
It must be hard to motivate yourself against the kids if your a seasoned pro, unless you’re returning from injury and building up minutes.

The likes of Akpan and Anderson must know this will be the only competition they’ll feature in.

It’s sad that some of their players will never see the Premier League, at Man City at least. I still thought they were decent though but even with 10 changes you’d still expect to dominate a game like that.

The glaringly obvious thing for me was a true indication of just how shallow and inadequate our 'squad' really is. As others before have indicated ..... God help us if we suffer a run of injuries and/or suspensions.

Well done to all those who resisted temptation and stayed at home.
Probably cost more to stage the game than was made from admission/sales

We also know that our reserve backup isn't very good, so besides our first team and a couple of others, it's a worry.

That comes from coaching at a young age. Also if the players are receptive to it.
Quite clearly our players didn't get the same standards.

It's extremely sad. Man City have spent something like 200m on full backs since Pep took over about 4/5 seasons ago.

The world of football needs City not to win the PL too ofen not or certainly not to win the CL anytime soon. Them kids at. City are of good quality but won't get a look the way City do business.

As for us no excuses for at least not controlling a game against an under 21 side without their best players

I consider this process to apply in all sports - The higher up the pyramid the Club, the better (in the main) the training and coaching. However, as you indicate, a lot too depends upon the young being receptive and eager enough to learn, and retain that enthusiasm. :)

What difference does it make if Man City win the league again? It's not like all their competitors aren't spending ridiculous amounts and have a unfair advantage? The only team who have won it with a modest budget in the last 20 years have been Leicester. Early 00's Man U were constantly breaking the transfer records. Then Chelsea came along mid 00's it's not a new thing teams spending ridiculous amounts to buy the title.

Utd in the OO's had the class of 92
Liverpool, Spurs, Chelsea, Arsenal etc are still playing lots of youth players. The youth players their still stand a chance unlike at City.

Youth players do stand a chance at Man City but the big difference being you have to be very very good to get into the side

When City feel the need to spend 50m every time they want a full back it's not about you have to be very very good to get into the side.

It's about them just wanting to buy a situation rather than develop one.
