Tell you what, Hopkin complaining about desperate free agents and their wage demands is very troubling.

They hired a man who is used to paying Scottish League One wages, which are going to be far lower than even League Two wages, and nothing like what Salford are paying in the National League. Seeing him baulk at these demands is concerning, particularly if he's comparing them to the low figures we must be paying the majority of our squad (though there will be notable exceptions).

Come January, we can make numerous approaches, the whole management team can become exasperated, and some lovely Kieffer Moore-style 'efforts' will be for nought, leaving us with the equivalents to an untested rookie (Guy), an amateur-level player (Brunker), and a guy from a poor league (McGowan).

It's time to set our expectations. Money might be made available - but will it be enough to attract players who can make a difference?

 

Sorry Jon, I usually enjoy reading your views, but this is just nonsense. The out of contract players are likely to be ex-Championship players and they will probably be demanding a similar salary to what they were on last season. Nothing to do with Scottish football and Hopkins’ expectations.

Paul Caddis hasn't played a Championship game since April 2016, and he's had two clubs since.

Jim O'Brien has previously played Championship football, but not since May 2014.

Is that two year discrepancy that big of a deal?

You might be right, ex-Championship players who are now League One journeymen might genuinely be demanding unaffordable wages, but 'last season'? There hasn't been a single rumoured name that played in the Championship last season associated with City recently - unless I'm missing someone?

 

But that’s my point. We HAVE signed O’Brien and Caddis is still training with us, so could still be offered a deal. But as for any other targets, we haven’t a clue who Hopkins has enquired about. For all you know, he could have put in calls to the likes of Huth, Collins, Samba, Bent, Agbonlahor and JET and they’ve all said they wouldn’t come for less than £10k a week.

 

I think it was a shot at Caddis' agent, to be honest.

I think we're trying to pressure them into signing a short term deal for not a lot.

 

I just think it is capitalism working at its finest. We are desperate, they suddenly find themselves in the unique position of being able to call the shots or they think they are. Law of the market short supply (good Championship players out of work) Customer (Bradford City) desperate to recruit.

Rumour mill in over drive this afternoon, some saying Rupp has had enough and Edin will not be returning, and others saying there will be some breaking news later this week.
Never a dull moment being a Bradford City fan.

They didn't go into detail but said the first comment about Edin was from a sponsor, and the breaking news was reference to Edin rather than the club, have you heard something @Petrov ? we'll have to see if there is any truth in either, as someone posted earlier Simon Parker said Edin was back but he would not be attending today's game.

I've heard nothing, other than Edin being back from Germany. I just thought from the way you wrote it that the breaking news might have been in relation to something else.

 

As I said the first was Edin would not be coming back, yet Parker says he's back in the country, picking his P45 up and clear his desk (we can but hope) and the second comment as I say he would not go into detail.

 

What I heard is from a neighbor of Juliens. There has been a parade of posh cars visiting the house over the last two weeks. She is not into football and was asking my friend if JR was back involved with City. She thought meetings were going on, with different cars coming and others leaving. Make of that what you will.

 

In a word no! Absolutely nothing that might happen in January will be enough to salvage anything other than modicum of pride from this almighty footballing mess. We're done for and it's a complete rebuild job needed from back to front! And possibly l might add with yet another new Coach/ Manager!
