Why do people seem to have a problem with there being a safe smoking area. I don't smoke myself but I totally respect people's right to have a fag if it is in a safe space away from others.

Plenty of grounds have them now and as long as they are classed as outdoors i.e. don't have 4 walls and a roof without any gaps. Some grounds don't have the appropriate area within the perimeter of the stadium like we do so they open some exit gates and put temporary barriers up for a designated smoking area.
It's the same as a lot of nightclub now that their smoking areas are within the nightclub but classed as outside so ok.Berkshire-bantam, bantamlad92 and bantamdave41 like this. -
Have I missed something here? They are smoking outside of the stadium in open air regardless of if they come into the stadium and then go back out, what's the problem?

Couldn't find out on our website but they are on others and I've definitely heard or read somewhere.
As examples
https://rangers.co.uk/fans/following-rangers/smoking-policy/
SMOKING POLICY
THE Smoking, Health and Social Care (Scotland) Act 2005 and the Prohibition of Smoking in Certain Premises (Scotland) Regulations 2006 state that no smoking is allowed in premises that are wholly or substantially enclosed.
As a result, the entire confines of Ibrox Stadium were deemed smoke-free since March 26, 2006.
This policy guarantees that all supporters, visitors and employees have the right to work and enjoy conditions free of tobacco smoke. Full details of this policy will be made available in the employee handbook and within Club correspondence. This will be reiterated via signage within the Stadium to inform supporters, visitors and employees of the smoke free status of the building.
Definition: Smoking is defined in this instance as smoking any tobacco products or the use of electronic smoking goods.
Please note – smoking is not permitted by supporters, visitors and employees in the following areas:
- Offices/ work areas
- Reception areas
- Hospitality suites
- Internal concourses
- Corridors
- External stadium seating area
- Stairways
- Food areas (either storage or preparation)
- Rest rooms
- Meeting rooms
- Toilets
- Entrances
- Storerooms
Smoking may be permitted at the following locations:
- Argyle House: Area to the rear of Argyle House Reception, underneath the Govan Stand adjacent to the loading bay
- Broomloan House: Shelter will be provided at the corner of the entrance tower
- Ticket Centre: Area to the side of the building – opposite Ibrox Business Park
- Copland House: Shelter will be provided at the corner of the entrance tower
- Superstore: Shelter provided at the corner of the Copland entrance tower
- Main Stand: Areas at the bottom of the East and West Towers
- Murray Park: The smoking shelter at the fenced area of the car park and nowhere else
A supply of bins will be provided in these locations for disposal of cigarette ash.

MATCHDAY SMOKING AREAS
Smoking areas are provided to the rear of the South (home support) and North (away support) Stands.
The areas are clearly marked with painted lines and appropriate signage. Sand buckets for discarded cigarette ends are provided in the area and we ask that supporters use them to avoid the need for additional housekeeping for grounds staff.
This smoking area is provided as a courtesy to supporters and therefore must be used responsibly.
This designated marked smoking area is also for the use of electronic cigarettes. Electronic cigarettes are not permitted to be used in any other part of the ground.
Any supporter who does not comply with this policy and:
I. Smokes or uses an electronic cigarette in any area of the stands other than the designated marked smoking area
II. Fails to comply with requests from crowd safety stewards or any member of MTFC staff to only smoke or use an electronic cigarette in the designated marked smoking area will be ejected from the ground and given an appropriate ban.

SMOKING ZONES
The club operates a strict no-smoking policy within the concourse and seated areas of the stadium. Smoking Zones have been created within the North, North East, East, South East, and South Lower stands of the stadium, which are clearly signposted.
Smoking is only permitted in the designated Smoking Zones after kick-off. Electronic cigarettes and smoking implements are not permitted within the stadium.Stoneski and bantamlad92 like this. -

If I remember correctly, smoking is permitted in designated areas of football stadia, as long as that area is not covered.

The smoking area outside the concourse in the lower Kop has been there years, I’m genuinely surprised there are people who didn’t know about it.
And even those that don’t sit in the Kop, have surely seen the smoking areas outside the concourse at away grounds? I don’t go to that many away games these days but in the past 3 seasons we’ve had smoking areas at Millwall, Blackburn, Southend and Charlton Away ends.Berkshire-bantam likes this.
