I alluded to it on Saturday about the commitment and endeavour not being up for debate but the skill level was just not there. Tonight we got that balance just about right IMHO, a few tweaks and I don't think we're far off. Apart from the more technical lads included in the side tonight, I thought McDonald's calmness and assuredness in the middle also made a massive difference.

 

I know….., us Southern lot get about!

 

Funny old game mate O/K they started with a weaker 11 but so did we and to be fair on the night we were the better side, chalk and cheese with regards Saturday, are some getting too complacent with regards their starting place.

 

Draw for the next round is 6:30pm on Friday, still regionalised. We were the only Northern Section tie tonight, tomorrow night it's Blackpool vs Burton and Accrington vs Bolton then next Tuesday Doncaster vs Wigan. Draw numbers will be confirmed after the games tomorrow night.

 

Do we get the home tie ?.

 

Gillihead should have shot not passed it, there must be a problem that no-one will shoot.

 

Bobby did in first 5, Gilly did the simple thing and it was right.

 

Although we made changes, I'm not sure tonight's team was weaker than Saturdays, except for Oliver maybe.

The EFL must have changed it for this season then as their announcement of the draw says it remains regionalised, I've just checked the regulations and it says that the quarter finals are regionalised

Noticed you haven't been back to congratulate the lads for tonight's win.

 

I think it might be fatigue rather than complacency, with GA playing a virtually unchanged side over the hectic festive period when a bit of squad rotation might have been the better option. I also think Walker (who was there watching in the stands tonight with the City fans), has been a big miss and Odour has not been an adequate replacement. Hopefully that will change on Saturday and Bobby or Harry will be given the nod ahead of him.

 

On way home the lads did us proud tonight.

 

The only changes for me that started tonight for Saturday would be Lewis for Doyle and Cook for Oliver so Gillead stays in that position for Halliday.
