Fair comment, but I'm very concerned he won't have a winning mentality - we lacked that in the centre of the park all last season, and it feels like a stretch to expect him to lead the midfield in the manner we'll require.
I guess time will tell as to how strong a character he will be.

Don’t rate him but I understand the logic given his home grown status and the fact he won’t be very expensive. As a squad player that’s fine if we want to keep him but if we plan to have him as a regular first team player in our midfield I will be very concerned.

Secondly, I will repeat my point. Why spend wages (irrelevant as to how little it is), on a player that has 3-4 midfielders in front of him ALREADY in the pecking order?
Finally, we have around £1m more in the bank to improve this squad. That equates to around £19,230 a week. But realistically that’s only the equivalent of 5 new players earning an average of £3k a week (£3k x 5 x 52wks =£780k). This leaves us around £220k to pay any signing-on fees, agents fees and bonuses. I’m sure you’d agree that £1m doesn’t stretch that far really.Stop hovering to collapse... Click to collapse... I don’t know this will happen, just like you don’t know Devine won’t excel when called upon.Gateway38 likes this. -

Bearing in mind we have been told that the remaining 16 players are costing us £1.6m, how the frig do you work that out? Even if only 2 of those 16 earn half a million pounds each, that leaves £600k to pay the remaining 14 players, at an average of just £825 a week.

The club stayed in the Q&A session that “if various sell-ons of previous transfer deals come off, the club’s finances will be stronger. That includes a potential promotion bonus on the Charlie Wyke transfer, if Sunderland win the play off final this weekend. The big one is Oli McBurnie, which the club retain a 15% sell-on fee for. Ryan said he has seen the paperwork that confirms the sell-on fee exists, despite the Sun’s Alan Nixon recently claiming otherwise. Any McBurnie windfall will help to plug the debts”.
To get out of this league you have to be lucky as well as have some talented players. We don’t have any yet, so will need to spend to bring in the quality we need. Not wanting to pick a fight on this, but there is no grey area here. Believe the club’s comment or your view based on a rumour you’ve heard elsewhere?Stop hovering to collapse... Click to collapse... Hover to expand... Click to expand...RonnieBrown likes this. -
Given that in reality, no one on here knows what each individual players salary is, then this sort of information is useful to put things into perspective.
What is the average salary in other English professional football leagues?
The difference in salary between the Premier League and lower leagues is very big. In the Championship the average salary is between £7,500 and £8,500 a week. The top players in the Championship can earn around £80,000 a week. The average salary in League One is between £1,700 and £2,500, and in League Two it’s between £1,300 and £1,500. https://www.onaverage.co.uk/money-averages/average-premier-league-salary
We have an idea of the budget, for next season. If we had 26 professional’s paid an exact equal slice of the cake, then they would be on £1,000 a week!
Having looked around for information about last season’s wages, then this gives a (unfounded/fantasy) breakdown, with Eoin Doyle suggested as the highest earner! I note that the web page is called ‘silly season’! https://sillyseason.com/list/salaries/bradford-city-players-salaries-127439/
The club clarified that the players Contracts included a clause, in that they would be on reduced salaries, if the club was relegated. So the ‘big earners’ last season will be on a lower income for 2019/2020.BoingBoing likes this. -
