To a degree your right, it's those who are ignoring the rules that are the main problem. However, the Dominic Cummings fiasco hasn't helped. His actions may not have encouraged them to break the rules, as they would have broken them anyway; Dominic Cummings has just given them another excuse to use.
We need to move on now. Any investigations/enquiries into the whole Coronavirus preparedness and response should, in the main, wait until after we emerge from this crisis.
I suspect that Boris and Dominic are dead men walking now. Lots of rumours that the 1922 committee want Boris and Dominic to see us through this virus, so that they can be the fall guys afterwards. Then a new PM in place for the next general election. It seems to be the way the Conservative party work. In terms of general election strategies, for the most part, the Conservatives are streets ahead of Labour.

You can hear it now when we come out of this pandemic and the country as well as most of the world will find we have a massive borrowed debt and the promises in the Tory manifesto are difficult to deliver some will wallow in their "told you you couldn't trust the Tories".Tony Wilkinson likes this. -

No you are damn right it is not a game.
Leaders should lead. They should set the standards. They should be impeccable!
For the ‘avoidance of doubt’, rule breakers whether they are from poorly educated backgrounds or have a first class honours degree from Exeter College, should follow the rules. No ‘Ifs and buts’! Those who break the rules should be held to account.Bantamsteve likes this. -
Cummings was instrumental In the advice and formation of the rules given to the nation and the Prime Ministers ‘right hand’. He, not Civil Servants is the one who has behaved in an unacceptable manner. He should resign (the honourable thing) or be sacked.
It is exceptionally worrying that he and his political masters have zero insight. How can we have confidence in such a man?Dennis likes this. -

Losing his job would be far to much punishment for what he did, A suspension or public rebuke far more suits the misdemeanor and should have been done,

When (not if) a second spike arises this has just made another lockdown nigh on impossible
People will quite rightly say "if DC can do it so can I" and that is difficult to dispute
Had he held his hand up and said he panicked and was not thinking straight then the next lockdown had a chance of being enforced now unfortunately there is no chance and innocent people will die from this horrific disease his actions were far more detrimental than most people realizeJayteebee likes this. -
