Sometimes, circumstances force that decision on them -- babies born with such severe problems that the doctors/midwives/nurses know there will be no life as we know it possible, or terminal cases beyond all human help, who then suffer, say, a heart attack. The Hippocratic oath comes bang against one's professional knowledge, and one is forced to play God. For all the treatments and cures that restore people to normality, this is the dark side and it does take its toll on the professionals. It's no wonder that some end up liking the bottle a little too much, or have other problems.

This explains very well the mathematical modelling that goes on when epidemics strike, and why a measure such as physical distancing is so important. This, I think, is just the sort of information that should be widely publicised.

The death rate just doesn’t add up in the UK. With all the non isolation going on and all the people still working our figures continue to be around the 150-200 mark daily. And now falling every day. Top health officials now saying we have it under control?? How?

Also the police in some areas are being reallY over zealous with this new law and I can see a lot of wasted time for all when this is over and the appeals come through. They should educate, educate, educate. Then as a last resort if someone is aggressively resisting then hand down fines. Why are we doing it and posting numbers on social media as a badge of honour? Pathetic in my eyes.

 

Absolutely.
I can guarantee that with it being a new law with it being less than a week old, most forces do not understand it fully and how they can then summons people to court for it is baffling.
Take your time with it and learn about it and then go that route if you deem fit.

I saw one at the weekend celebrating they had stopped a family in a car going for what they deemed non-essential items. They were summonsed for it. Now who was summonsed? The driver or everyone? Or the parents? And there is no where in the law it states you cannot travel as a family shopping. It is just advised against by the government.
Seems they boast about it on twitter and stick a hashtag of save the nhs with it and everyone backs them up. awful policing

Where've you seen that? I haven't seen anyone of significance start to make claims of this thing being under control. There are likely to be fluctuations on a day by day basis, its the trend over a longer term period that becomes the relevant measure.

Not sure is that was specific to the UK or a wider statement. Looking at the challenges that governments in Africa, India and a few other places have - I don't think they have a cat in hells chance of being in control within 8 weeks.

 

Even a blind chicken will find some grain.

But seriously, that sort of information, especially if (it would have been) disseminated in the schools, could go (could have gone) a long ways towards convincing people that isolation measures are important, and even more, that they will, in time, have the desired effect.
