As I understand it, for about three months it cuts your chance of contracting/transmitting the virus by about 50% but that declines to virtually nothing by 6 months. Protection against serious illness remains high though.
The early indication from studies in Israel is that the booster gives significantly higher protection than two jabs and the expectation is that this will last longer than two jabs only.

I think it's pretty clear that they don't expect the number to be anywhere near 100k. It seems that, faced with a choice between being jabbed and losing their job, most of the Vax-hesitant people in the care sector have caved in and got jabbed. I think they expect the same thing to happen in the NHS.

This looks like a calculated attempt to get more people jabbed. The overwhelming majority of those people will be perfectly fine and the government will then cite them as an example to persuade other, non NHS, people to get jabbed.

Yes, the experience in France, for example, suggests the vast majority will get jabbed.

I just got my booster today, at the walk-in clinic in Broadway shopping centre.
They are agreeing to give boosters to anyone up to a week short of 6 months since their second jab.
I'm ten days short of the six months but persuaded them to let me have it because I'm going to be visiting my four week old grandson next week.

Well Javid has just announced it. Covid jabs will be mandatory but Flu jabs aren't. Do these vaccines work in different ways? The people vulnerable to Covid are just as vulnerable to flu.

He announced that as it stands about 35k carers will lose their job tomorrow. God only knows how that gap will be plugged. He also wants these people he is willing to kick to the side to continue over the winter to help the pressures on the NHS before discarding them when their usefulness has expired.

It's also amazing how quickly the government have make the people who were clapped for on the doorstep last year, be the current scapegoats in the health system.

I presume that all NHS staff will now have to sign up to 6 monthly jabs forever going forward now to keep their jobs.

Comparing apples and pears. Covid is far more likely to kill than flu.

I'm not saying I agree with compulsory vaxing. I was just pointing out that the government don't expect it to be anywhere near 100k lost staff.

It would be interesting to know how many of the 100k currently unvaccinated NHS staff are qualified professionals - doctors, nurses, qualified technicians etc. If the majority are unqualified staff like cleaners, porters, admin etc, the government may be calculating that those kinds of staff can be more easily replaced. I suspect that the percentage of qualified clinical staff who are refusing vaccination is pretty small.

As with anything the government does these days we won't know, and the best spin will be put on it. This is a government who tried to change the rules to save a collegue from suspension. I have actually seen someone today comment that they would refuse help from an unvaccinated person within the NHS and would rather lie on a trolley waiting, bonkers for a virus that has only caused so many deaths due to the actions of the government rather than a few people chosing not to be vaccinated.

Do they have any evidence that the passport scheme has had any effect on infection rates, or are they just doing it as part of a power trip?

Rates continue to fall in England and Tuesday is usually he highest day as it picks up the weekend lag.

In the last week I am aware of about 8 people who have caught covid, all doubled jabbed and all with school aged children.

All of them are fine but it paints a picture of school age transmission being brought into the home of which any kind of restriction or precaution would not be able to stop, unless people are going to start wearing masks around the house and stop hugging their children.

Weirdly all the people I know that have caught it recently are without school age kids and have caught it at work

I guess that's the circles we move round in.

I just don't think the places they shutdown for large periods have really had that much of an effect on transmission compared to the places that have been open for the most part.

Care staff sacked tomorrow seeing tens of thousands of carers in a sector short of carers, even more short.

NHS staff to go the same way, but only in April, we wouldn't want to be shorthanded over Christmas.

So who is the next target? Looks like the elderly if they don't line up and take the booster...

He was answering a question about a new rule in France to which he said they hadn't looked at it and when asked if he could rule it out he refused as they don't want to rule anything out.

I'm completely opposed to stuff like this, I think I have been pretty consistent in this message but I wouldn't put it past the government at this stage.

They see the figures, they know the deaths are still at the top end of the scale and they are happening in the vaccinated as well as the unvaccinated.

To be fair to them by getting rid of all these carers, covid deaths won't be the main cause this winter, it will be lack of care.

I honestly think they are just refusing to rule anything out so they can not be accused of a u turn in 6/12 months time if it suddenly all goes tits up
