Its a strange one we saw the devastation Covid was having on India, yet whenever you see pictures from Afghanistan or Pakistan there walking around with little or no face protection on.

Probably still the biggest daily killer. Without looking I can not imagine anything else accounting for almost 1in12

I'd be surprised - I seem to recall that I read it was only just in the top 10 causes in July.

Not sure where the more recent figures are though.

If it is only just in the top 10 now then there are only 10 things killing people currently

    That's probably true actually :joy:

I'm likely mistaken anyway. I hadn't realised how much the deaths had changed since July.

Just had a look, last year Covid was top killer at 12.1%, Dementia/Alzeihmers 11.5%, ischaemic heart diseases 9.2% and then down to 4.9% for cerebrovascular diseases.

So 8% would put it 4th if everything else was average

Where's cancer come... I thought that killed 1 in 3. Or does it just affect 1 in 3

Aren't the many different cancers disaggregated in the stats rather than combined together as a single number?

With 250k people testing positive each week, that gives us a pool of 1m out of a population of 65m that will be recorded as a covid death regardless of how they die.

I wonder what the rates would be if deaths were measured 28 days since vising Tescos.

The numbers used on cause of death isn't the 28 day thing. We are now talking about the main cause of death as stipulated on the death certificate, not a secondary or contributory factor

It's what they report on the main government website.

Yes but we are not talking about that. We are talking about cause of death. We are discussing figures around the death certificates

The "covid" related scenes in Australia are getting pretty bloody scary.
