JCB have changed their company sick pay rules so only those that are double vaccinated will get company sick pay if they have to isolate due to close contact.

is this the way more companies will go? Or were they lucky they got company sick pay for it anyway?

Don't know how companies can afford to employ folk these days, what with wages, holiday pay, sickness pay ni and pension contributions etc, glad I got through as a one man band...

I see many people saying the reduction is down to schools, even though school only finished last week and they seem to expect those results instantly, however for the restrictions being removed they expect a lag.

Let's be honest, those who are likely to test 7 times a week are not the kind of people who will be heading to a club or pub. Infact I would expect those who do so are those who have long since deleted the app and pay little attention to testing.

Why is this possible on the 16th August, but not possible now? What is the difference between now and then? There is no difference, so just apply that to now.

I presume you can't answer what the difference between that being in place now or in two weeks make then. There really is no reason why it shouldn't be brought into place now rather than this daft system of certain professions being allowed to do so.

Is it suddenly safer to make the change on the 16th or is it just where the dart hit the calendar?

And yes I will call out things that make absolutely no sense. There is absolutely no reason why what they propose for the 16th can't be implemented now.

What a daft question, if the scientists/government thought it could be brought forward I'd suggest they would, but unlike you or me they are the ones making the call, people like you will be the first to jump on the band wagon if it goes wrong, it is not set in stone it could be brought forward but they are saying on the 16th of August is “nailed on”, we've endured this Covid pandemic for 14/16 months two weeks is nothing in comparison.

I wouldn't be someone who would jump on a band wagon if it went wrong, you clearly have me mixed up with someone else. I have consistently called for a moving forward from restrictions through out, I have also rubbished the idea of covid passports seeing as though you can get Covid and pass Covid with the vaccine anyhow.

I have questioned the science in not being able to order a beer from the bar, but being able to stand at a counter to order a takeaway coffee. Last week I was extemely vocal about the requirement to wear masks at an outdoor football match.

There really is no science behind this move, there is absolutely nothing that makes it safe to do on the 16th August but not today. The risk is exactly the same in both scenarios, unless some magic dust is going to be dropped over the UK on the evening of the 15th August.

So why do you think they are saying 16th nailed on but could possibly be brought forward, to piss people off or just be bloody minded, 15 days at the worst hopefully before.

They look stupid creating extra rules for the "pingdemic" when they can just admit this date is plucked out of thin air and move it forward. They won't move it forward but they should also explain why that just can't happen now, because you must see yourself nothing will change between then and now to make it any less risky.

I imagine it's that it gave four more weeks from the date of the announcement to get more people double jabbed. It's a carrot to persuade those who've had one jab but, for some bizarre reason, haven't gone for their second, to get on with it to avoid having to self isolate if pinged or contacted by track & trace.

More people will be vaccinated by then. It's clearly an inducement to get/keep the vaccine numbers up.
