The police will have authority but you'll not see any action, more likely to come from the stores/shops themselves..

Maybe. But isn't the outlook that they wanted people to primarily focus on distance - the biggest differentiator - also equally as plausible?

I'm not going to say that the scarcity of resources hasn't played any part but the clarity of "just stay 2m away" must have also been a factor?

If it was purely scarcity it wouldn't match the timing. Everyone has been able to get face coverings easily for about 8 weeks and the NHS don't use them?

According to the police it wont be them, they are hoping it will be the shop keepers, there was a snippet of news from outside a shop in California it said "no mask no service", I thought that made sense, pretty easy to grasp but I'm also sure some will then they'll challenge it.

The shop keeper can't enforce it. They shouldn't either, their work is hard enough without having to deal with morons refusing to wear masks.

They don't have to serve them either if their not wearing a mask, a simple notice outside should make the minority aware they wont get served.

I won't be wearing a mask and I have no underlying health conditions. I just think it's absolutely ridiculous to try and enforce this now when the chance of catching COVID-19 is now extremely low. The only place that masks should be compulsory are in hospitals and care homes.

I won't argue about it, if a shop won't serve me if I'm not wearing a mask, I'll just go and find a shop that will. If they wish to turn away paying customers in this climate then who am I to argue.

Probably be best off wearing a condom rather than a face mask if you intend to set foot inside that shop.

Let me put this in numbers. The last figures I saw in Bradford were that you essentially have a 0.023% chance of catching COVID-19. 'Face coverings' are not particularly effective but they do prevent large droplets from entering the mouth and nose, I read somewhere that it could reduce your chance of catching the virus by 10%.

So we're saying that by wearing a mask you are reducing your chance of catching COVID-19 from 0.023% to 0.02%. It's nominal.

If you want to believe all the scare-mongering that is up to you but I won't be wearing a mask when it's clear I don't need to.

I posted several weeks ago that a friend lost his mother and father within 24 hours his dad was dying of cancer and mother we believed died of a heart attack, to get their bodies released they we're told the cause of death would be Covid-19 on the death certificates.

Boris might want me to return to the office. However as it is impossible to get childcare and the schools have packed up for the 6 week holidays whilst been shut for months, working from home is the only option.

Out of interest what would you normally do during the holidays with the kids?

Use a mixture of paid childcare and the grandparents.
However one set of grandparents have been told they still need to self isolate until August, and the childcare we have regularly used have been told they can only take half the children they could this time last year.
