I’m not averse to compassion. Quite the opposite - but we need compassion on a holistic basis. My attitude to this has changed cover the months. When it first appeared that this could be a completely indiscriminate disease that posed a genuine risk to life for people of all ages and conditions, I was supportive of the lockdown measures that were taken. But since then, a better picture of risk has appeared. Most people have nothing to worry about from this virus. But what about those losing their jobs - and facing into an economic recession the likes of which we’ve never seen? What about the future generation who’ll be paying back the government in taxes for decades to come? What about the weddings, funerals, family celebrations that are being missed? What about the people who’ll die from illnesses that they can’t get appointments for because they’re not yet known to be serious cases? What about the suicides and disastrous physical and mental health issues we’re seeing? What about a generation of kids who aren’t getting the education they need? We need normality for the majority. And we need to shield and protect - with dignity, those who are most at risk.

Lancashire accepted been in tier 3 but have managed to negotiate a deal where gyms and health clubs can stay open.
I mean come on wtf is going on now? How can one be safe in Lancashire and one not in Liverpool, just because one council negotiated and one didn’t.

Feeling really proud of myself and all good inside as I’ve just done an unprompted good deed
I was in Tesco and at the check out stood behind a old lady in the queue. Her bill came to £56.83 but when she counted all her change she was £5 short
I thought to myself, the poor old lady and what a world we live in where the elderly get no help
Anyway with it being just before Christmas and everything I decided that I would step up and help her
To be fair she actually didn't want me to help her but I insisted, and in no time at all we had all her shopping back on the shelves!!!

The vaccine take up is 87.5% of adults, that is amazing for a non mandatory vaccine. Yet for some that is not enough, however if you want to increase that take up the way to do it is not to take away their rights and freedoms.
As people are a little upset about the 1930s Germany comment I guess they don't like the fact it is being pointed out they are quite happy to oppress a section of society. I know you can't chose your skin colour or ethnic group, so if you want another example of people being oppressed through no fault of their own look at anyone who caught HIV/Aids in the 80s, instant social outcasts because of a virus.Ricky, RCarol, Aaron Baker and 4 others like this. -
100% the wrong decision to need proof of vaccination to enter any establishment.
The only downside to not having an vaccination should be the health risk to yourself of not having it. In a "true" pandemic you wouldn't need to twist people's arms to have a vaccine.
Creating an 'us an them', two tier society, especially targeting an age group that have given up lots without actually having much risk themselves is a joke decision. The fact people support this move saddens me.RCarol, vladimir, Edin Nowhere and 4 others like this. -

I must be one of those that hardly pays attention to the virus coverage anymore. Sick of seeing vax and anti vax or figures are up down today but hey they could be up next week. I made a choice and had my 2 jabs, if I have to wear a mask at some point I will do but I wont wear one outside in the open and I continue to use common sense. . If others choose different then I respect that. Covid is well down the list of the important things going on my life to a point where I don't think about it. If I catch it again that's life.

They've been saying this doubling nonsense since early December.
If you 'do the maths' that would mean EVERYONE in the UK would be infected by Christmas and everyone in the world would be infected by the New Year.
Why do people believe these silly predictions? Does nobody in this crappy govt have access to a calculator?
Here's some maths. If there were "200,000 cases" in a day 154 of them would die within 28 days irrespective of Covid, ie. they would die like people have since time began.
The reason is that 0.0007692308% of the UK population die every month.
This is how they are massaging the figures to keep everyone scared and impose totalitarian measures on a brainwashed public.Bronco, Bumblebee_Tuna, Aaron Baker and 4 others like this. -
I went through something similar 4 years ago when my wife was diagnosed terminal bowel cancer that had already spread to her liver small comfort but once the diagnosis had been made the hospital couldn't do enough for her or the family I can only speak of Calderdale who were brilliant right to the end

Take a step back. Every year we have a flu outbreak not just in the UK but around the world. But this isn't like a flu outbreak. Most flu viruses are a mutation of a previous flu virus. The impact on us humans is reasonably well understood and at least in the UK, its impact is mitigated by a few million flu vaccines every year. Flu viruses produce a fatality rate of around 0.02% on average for those who catch it in the UK
Covid-19 is not a flu virus. It is a new virus in us humans spread from other species of mammals which happens to have flu-like symptoms. Nobody at this stage knows how to combat this new virus with vaccines nor fully understands how it affects humans. The fatality rate so far from the new virus is around 2-3% of those who catch it. That's about 100 times the rate of deaths from flu viruses in the UK. It's certainly a much higher rate than the chances of winning the lottery. And that's why there has been such a reaction to date and why we'd better expect further changes to our daily routines just to contain the spread of covid-19. -
