The fact that there are probably hundreds if not thousands of research labs around the world looking for a workable vaccine for Covid-19 is reassuring. But the common cold virus is also a member of the coronavirus family and after decades of research, a vaccine for the common cold has never been produced because it mutates so easily! That's one of the reason why scientists remain concerned about the potential implications of Covid-19.

Bloody hell! Things are getting serious when the footballing authorities are considering delaying the money-spinning Euro's until next year!

Edit - Just been told that the opening FI grand prix of F1 in Melbourne has been postponed because one of the teams' members has proved positive for the virus. I haven't seen any confirmation of that as yet.

    I'd prefer null and void

    Start again next year

Positions can’t stand I believe. I don’t know what the English regulations are but in general 80% of a sport competition needs completed to be considered complete. It would have to be fully voided right now

    Utter nonsense.

They're 4 teams in Germany going for the title and 6 points points from each other at the top. So you could say no title.

    Liverpool are 22 points clear.

The risk to the crowd is fairly low, you are more likely to get it from people you have extended close contact with like family, friends or work colleagues so not suspending it before wasn’t a major problem imho but when Players and coaches are getting it that’s a problem. They are in close contact with each other in training and in matches there is contact between players so when players/coaches start to get it there isn’t really much choice because you are going to have to call off individual matches anyway as teams won’t have players they can field

As much as that appeals in a perverse way, there are similar implications across the entire footballing pyramid. Are there any promotion and relegations this season? Which teams are eligible in the PL for the Champions and Europa leagues? How will some of the Sky money be distributed which is position dependent? Will Sky want to claw some money back if PL and EFL games can't be broadcast? A Pandora's box has been well and truly opened and it may take some closing again.

The EFL are not taking control, they announced all games to go ahead as recently as yesterday. It took the Premier League to make a stance and the EFL as usual just followed that stance. The Premier League's stance was only because their hand was forced via Arsenal, Everton, Leicester, etc.

So taking the first shutdown Saturday, tomorrow, as the starting point, if the government's figures are correct, we have a steady rise over 10 to 14 weeks to the peak, followed by a steady decline back to current levels, over the following 10 to 14 weeks; so that's a closedown of 20 to 28 weeks.

So, if the above is correct, the peak will fall between Saturday 23 May and Saturday 20 June, with us being in a position to restart football sometime around Saturday 1 August to Saturday 26 September.

Depends on when it starts again I suppose. If as suggested it's going to be well into when next season would have started it could be an idea to finish off this season's fixtures then begin the next season after a mini break. Have the next season as a one off when you only play each team once in the league campaign.

Well if Bolton got away with not playing because their players were "tired" ,there is no way the EFL could make clubs play if half their squad had the virus.

What about the hugs and touching when they score? Or the physical bear hugs strikers get from defenders? Don’t they shower before playing? Wash hands?
