Given the view that the peak is 10-14 weeks away, there is virtually no prospect of any more games before the end of the season. I wonder if they will take current positions as final? At any rate a view will need to be taken by May otherwise it will be chaos. Then again for us older folk that night be the least of our worries!

According to the BBC most of the parties involved in the decision think starting on April 4th is basically impossible as well. I would be surprised if Bradford play again before the scheduled matches of either Northampton away or Walsall at home if not after the season has supposed to have ended

Perhaps this turns into the phantom season and we all start again in August? Hard luck on teams at the top, but not sure any other option would be fairer.

If the UK government's predicted profiling of this virus is correct, then we may be lucky to get going again in August.

    https://www.bradfordcityfc.co.uk/news/2020/march/club-statement-city-fixtures-suspended/

Following a meeting of Shareholders today, it was unanimously decided to suspend the Premier League with the intention of returning on 4 April, subject to medical advice and conditions at the time.

Premier League Chief Executive Richard Masters said: "Above all, we wish Mikel Arteta and Callum Hudson-Odoi speedy recoveries, and everyone else affected by COVID-19.

"In this unprecedented situation, we are working closely with our clubs, Government, The FA and EFL and can reassure everyone the health and welfare of players, staff and supporters are our priority."

Despite the challenges, it is the Premier League's aim to reschedule the displaced fixtures, including those played by Academy sides, when it is safe to do so.

In this fast-moving environment, further updates will be provided when appropriate.

Really dissapointed as tomorrow was going to be my second ever Home game.

I believe Germany’s proposal is the current top 4. With league 2 due to have 3 automatically go up you have to feel the PL would have to take the top 4 in prem and then each league below take the 4 from below it. Although that gets complicated at Below national league level as you have multiple leagues feeding into feeding a single league so what do you do take 2 from each as you can’t promote 4 from each as that would make the national league have 28 teams. And complicated further as the national league south and north were planning on expanding to 24 teams each by relegating 2 teams each but promoting 4.

Guess that’s one of the problems with us having way more pro and semi pro clubs than any other country despite being such a small country. It’s much easier for Germany to do it than it is us

That’s something if they do want to restart it what happens relating to player contracts. You have 5 players whose contract or loan deals end at the end of May and a large amount of the squad have deals that end at the end of June. If it’s not started before May you will certainly be missing 5 players by the end of the season and if it’s even later than that you could be missing most of the squad.

Unfortunately that's not how the EFL loan arrangements work ;)

Just seems a bit silly really.

Outdoors, limited contact with others, etc etc etc.

Probably one of the least dangerous scenarios, first to be suspended. I get that it's easier, cheaper, etc, but it feels a little lazy to me.

Why do you think the club was so nonchalant about letting high earners like Doyle and Vaughan go :scream:

The risk to the crowd is fairly low, you are more likely to get it from people you have extended close contact with like family, friends or work colleagues so not suspending it before wasn’t a major problem imho but when Players and coaches are getting it that’s a problem. They are in close contact with each other in training and in matches there is contact between players so when players/coaches start to get it there isn’t really much choice because you are going to have to call off individual matches anyway as teams won’t have players they can field

As much as that appeals in a perverse way, there are similar implications across the entire footballing pyramid. Are there any promotion and relegations this season? Which teams are eligible in the PL for the Champions and Europa leagues? How will some of the Sky money be distributed which is position dependent? Will Sky want to claw some money back if PL and EFL games can't be broadcast? A Pandora's box has been well and truly opened and it may take some closing again.

That's true, but let's be honest, they are testing so few people that they have no idea how many have got coronavirus. They're only reacting to confirmed cases, and they only get confirmed usually if it's traceable to a specific source.

It's passed all that now, and into the wider populace, so suspending sport while coming from a well meant place but leaving general work and schools as normal is going to achieve absolutely nothing.

There's two choices: shut down or carry on as normal. Currently our policy will cost the economy millions whilst failing to affect the spread.

I think they have decided to do it now to uphold the integrity of the competition. Arsenal can not play for a couple of weeks, Leicester similar, Man City possibly and that is just from yesterday. Factor in different teams self isolating at different points and the season could end for some with others still having a lot of games to play.

    This way it is controlled

They definitely controlled the season, and no Bradford City player is going to be confirmed with the virus if they have it or not. I just do not think the government has nailed this at all.

I mean this isn't even a recommendation from the government, more the EFL trying to take some control.

But for as long as the gov is chasing this silly idea of herd, immunity any well meaning attempt to stop the spread of the virus is hopeless.
