Rhodes keeps on saying we will have a competitive budget.

Edin said we would have competitive budget when he was here.

I'm still waiting to see this competitive budget. In fact I would go as far as saying the lack of budget in the last two Jan transfer windows has cost this club badly and the final nail in our relegation to div 2.

So how much realistically do we need to get us back to div 1 considering we have no sellable assets.

    Players required

    1 x keeper(back up)
    2 x CB's
    1 x LB
    2 x CM
    1 x DM
    2 x Wingers
    1 x AM
    2 x Centre forwards.

I think we need at least 2 -3 million as a competitive budget.

Quite obvious we had a competitive budget this season Fordy just had the wrong person using that budget.

We'd already blown most of our budget and couldn't get rid of the crap.

We were already over budget but that still increased considerably, I would think. Payne (increase), Butterfield, Clarke, Anderson and Woods won’t be cheap.
I’d argue the budget has been generous - but we’ve signed the wrong players with that budget both in the summer and in January.

I think we've spent more than a competitive budget this season all told, sadly it was completely wasted on unprofessional lazy crap by Rahic.

It's probably quite sad to imagine what someone who knows football could have done with what we've actually spent in the last two years. I suspect we'd be looking at Championship football next season instead of the football dumping ground we're heading to.

Nothing wrong with the budget, it should have seen us competing for a play off spot. How it was used on the other hand....

Rahic ruined us. Got to get at least 6 or 7 of the budget in the summer. Big rebuild required =]

Think your list of requirements is spot on. I’d add to that an RB which naturally we’d hope will be Caddis, but he’s not confirmed or contracted at this stage.

As others have commented, our budget over the past two seasons has been more than adequate for us to build a squad capable of challenging top 10 at minimum. It’s within how this was used and who on, which has been grossly mismanaged.

I suspect/hope the approach for next season will be similar of that which Parky took on his first full season. Mixing experienced campaigners at the latter part of their career (Jones, Caddis types) with young loans/free transfers to provide depth (Cullen, Burke, Hines etc). Looking back I don’t think we gave Parky the credit on just how good his recruitment was in those first seasons. A lot of shrewd signings of players with the right character and skill set to allow us to progress. Bowyer doesn’t come across stupid and seems to have the knowledge and experience as to what is needed. Hope we see this executed within the next two seasons.

Wood, Clarke and Anderson were entirely predictable as poor signings

The way to have a good January transfer window, is to have better summer recruitment.

We shouldn't be in a position of needing 4, 5 or 6 new players across multiple positions, just 2 or 3 at the max.

The number of players that have gone through our books in the last 2 years is damning on the whole recruitment philosophy of Bradford City.

So are we saying that Edin scouted and signed the players this summer? If so that is rubbish. There isn’t a chance he would have heard of the majority of the players we brought in.

In the summer we got in Payne, Scannell, Mellor, Doyle, Josh Wright, Akpan, David Ball, O'Donnell and A O'Connor as first team squad players. 90% of every team in Leage one would have taken those players. If I remember correctly we were all extremely happy with the players we signed due to their football league experience.
Mellor was touted on here for 18 months before we actually signed him.

While Edin was nowhere near perfect, he did do bits of good.. Most of us on here were very happy with the signings in the summer.
Add that to Jo Riley and Connor Wood who again we were all very positive about 8 months ago. Many of these players haven’t worked out for one reason or another. That isn’t Edin's fault in my opinion.

Why was he ever getting involved in the first place though?

And how would more than one mans opinion help with a limited budget at this level? The manager says we need a left winger, CEO doesn’t agree its a pressing matter and goes and signs a striker? How will that ever work?

Manager says I want to keep this experienced CB, he won’t play every week but is vital for cover and injuries. cEo states nah get rid, we can get a loan on the cheap to do same job.

Hey presto you have a squad not balanced and lacking quality

Agreed, but im pretty sure that happens up and down the land. Not that im condoning it. The players we signed are more than good enough not to be bottom 4 though.

I’d agree around 3/4’s of the starting line up are good enough. But then you’ve a very poor pair of CB’s and a left back. No wingers or any pace at all and one recognised Center forward at his level.

It’s a team game and we haven’t built a team

We all agreed at the time that Mellor, O'Connor and O'Donnell would all improve or be the same as the team that took us to Wembley. The same team that NKP was part of. Scannell hasn’t worked out and Akpan and Josh Wright have been poor, but again both had a more than decent enough record at our level for it to be an attractive signing last summer. Doyle should have been an excellent signing but the target man we required just wasn’t available. Not at a price we could afford anyway.
Add that to the bizarre situation of Reeves and Robinson who would both in and around the starting XI.

just because we welcomed the new signings and were happy with them doesn't actually make them good signings, and the fact they have turned out to be crap, lazy and no have no heart for a fight is indeed Edin's fault.
he was the one doing the research and signing the cheques and bringing in these players. we didn't have a head coach, and the one we eventually did appoint was just Edin's puppet anyway.

Edin Rahic has set this club back YEARS, and we're lucky its only that, we could have ceased to exist as a football league club altogether had it gone on much longer.
