A player I've actually heard of too

 

This is a good signing, Donaldson will bring vast amounts of experience and leadership which we've sorely missed. Plus he's a proper horrible b*****d on the pitch, something else we've missed. As for his ability, we'll just have go wait and see and hope his legs haven't gone. Although 36 year old Fabio Quagliarella was the top scorer in Italy this year, outscoring Ronaldo so age isn't everything.

City have tonight secured the services of striker Clayton Donaldson, who becomes the Bantams’ seventh signing of the summer.

The 6ft 2ins frontman arrives on an initial one-year contract and brings a wealth of experience, having made over 400 EFL appearances representing the likes of Sheffield United, Birmingham City and Brentford.

Born and raised in Bradford, the Jamaican international began his youth career with City and is delighted to be returning to the Northern Commercials Stadium.

Former Bolton Wanderer Donaldson said: “I am absolutely delighted to be joining the club. I grew up in Bradford, as a City fan, so this move means an awful lot to me.

“I started my youth career here and coming back was always something I planned on.

“I spoke to Gary (Bowyer) and he ticked all the boxes, for me. He speaks and acts very passionately about the club and I cannot wait to start working with him.

“The passion of the supporters was a huge factor dragging me in.

“As a player you want to be representing a club with passionate supporters. I am looking forward to getting in front of them and doing them proud.

“It was disappointing - as a fan - to see City suffer relegation from League One last season.

"It is important to bounce straight back and I will be looking to hit the ground running."

Bowyer is delighted to have a target man on board and believes he will prove a valuable asset to his side next season.

The City boss added: “This is a fantastic signing for the club.

“Clayton is a Bradford lad and the move means a lot to him.

“I watched him several times last season, in the Championship. His work rate and attitude was first class.

“He brings a wealth of experience we can all learn from - with him playing over 600 career games.

“He will be a great role model in our dressing room - and out on the pitch."

Donaldson will officially become a Bradford City player on July 1 - when his contract with Bolton Wanderers expires. The agreement is subject to standard EFL and FA clearances.

 

Wow some positivity on the message board at last, nice to see, let's hope more players of a similar quality are lined up and brought into the club in the next week or so, then possibly a couple of good loan players.

He has had a great career which may or may not be over as you say he never let us down like many ageing pros have done in the past

 

As a Bradford lad brought up in Manningham , how can anyone not wish Clayton well on leaving.I hope he has a couple of seasons that suits his style of play where he can enjoy his footy before he hangs up his boots. One of our own.

 

Can I just point out amongst all the comments, that a certain Mr C Donaldson has yet to sign for BCFC...

 

Good signing. Age is only a number and he keeps himself in good nick.

CDs game has never been about pace and acceleration.

 

The problem with the development is that those in charge expect instant results and do not give players time to develop. Look at the number of players we have signed, like Clare, who are binned after a season. He was injured for large parts and then cast off. If we are serious about developing these kids, they should be signed on 3yr development contracts and left to develop. Signing them for 1yr and releasing them serves zero purpose

Donaldson could do a good job. 2 years for a player who's 36 in Feb though....?
