It was a Crewe game I remember, he was absolutely unplayable. Sure he was playing upfront with someone else but I can't remember who it was!

 

It would be even better if we could swap an O'Connor for an O'Connor.

He's been playing in the Championship for the last five years, Birmingham to Sheffield to Bolton. You don't stick around at that level for long if you don't have something about you. He's probably past his best but I'm sure he could have got a league one club had he wanted to. There won't be many clubs in league two who sign strikers that were regularly playing in the Championship last season.

 

I watched the footy highlights from last year. There was no way he was getting ahead of that other Birmingham striker and as for Bolton they are bab. He will do fine.

 

At last a statement from Bowyer ! A leader a player supporters can ID with a scorer surely at this level ?. Considering we had no one at all of his stature up front for the past two seasons we at last have a striker who can make a differece and benefit those around him. I reckon Doyle will be a different player with big Clayton alongside ? His age doesnt worry me at all 35 ? look at all the know how he brings Championship to League 1 he should smash it !

Donaldson is the type of player I’d dred to see on the oppositions team sheet. This feels a very good singing for us.

BANTAMS SECURE BRADFORD-BORN DONALDSON









City have tonight secured the services of striker Clayton Donaldson, who becomes the Bantams’ seventh signing of the summer.

The 6ft 2ins frontman arrives on an initial one-year contract and brings a wealth of experience, having made over 400 EFL appearances representing the likes of Sheffield United, Birmingham City and Brentford.

Born and raised in Bradford, the Jamaican international began his youth career with City and is delighted to be returning to the Northern Commercials Stadium.

Former Bolton Wanderer Donaldson said: “I am absolutely delighted to be joining the club. I grew up in Bradford, as a City fan, so this move means an awful lot to me.

“I started my youth career here and coming back was always something I planned on.

“I spoke to Gary (Bowyer) and he ticked all the boxes, for me. He speaks and acts very passionately about the club and I cannot wait to start working with him.

“The passion of the supporters was a huge factor dragging me in.

“As a player you want to be representing a club with passionate supporters. I am looking forward to getting in front of them and doing them proud.

“It was disappointing - as a fan - to see City suffer relegation from League One last season.

"It is important to bounce straight back and I will be looking to hit the ground running."

Bowyer is delighted to have a target man on board and believes he will prove a valuable asset to his side next season.

The City boss added: “This is a fantastic signing for the club.

“Clayton is a Bradford lad and the move means a lot to him.

“I watched him several times last season, in the Championship. His work rate and attitude was first class.

“He brings a wealth of experience we can all learn from - with him playing over 600 career games.

“He will be a great role model in our dressing room - and out on the pitch."

Donaldson will officially become a Bradford City player on July 1 - when his contract with Bolton Wanderers expires. The agreement is subject to standard EFL and FA clearances.

Not getting over excited but if we keep Doyle with Donaldson and a fair wind these two could cause havoc in league two this coming season, and Bowyer hasn't finished yet.

 

Aside from his pedigree which is great, Donaldson is exactly the relatable sort of player we’ve not had for too long, someone who feels like one of us and not some Anthony O’Connor/Josh Wright mercenary who looks like they couldn’t give a ****.

If he'd signed for another league two club I'd gave been like - really, why couldnt we have got him? Must be budget etc etc
