Donaldson is stealing a wage if he isn't fit to come on and replace Guthrie.

 

Didn't really enjoy that performance but a win is a win. Take that every day of the week.

I thought we moved the ball around nicely at times today.

Clarke had a great game. Sutton and Watt great energy.

Its good that we are unbeaten and not at full speed yet. This league seems to be panning out to be quite poor so a couple of decent players in next week and we can maybe start to look forward to a decent season.

It was good that we didn't capitulate and had the resolve to win.

They were unbeaten and I think the travelling today definitely affected them but a win is a win.

 

People were saying the same about the Bolton game and it was easy to see then how poor they were. Isn't gonna take a lot to get out of this division judging by the rest of the division. We just don't have the balance right yet, another couple of players and we might have.

 

Thought generally it was a good performance. Start of the second half until we scored was a bit scrappy but we controlled the game for the most part.

Defence was ok, although not overly tested until the latter stages where they were shaky. Silly error from wood for the goal, just needs to clear it.

Thought Watt and Clarke were excellent, best players on the pitch by far.

Guthrie offered absolutely nothing. Novak's general play was appaling but he popped up with two good goals, so I can't complain too much. Still desperately need that striker with some pace, because the lack of mobility up there is holding us back.

Overall much improved, but still work to do.

 

SM said on radio that they would have travelled yesterday and stayed overnight-presumably that allows the players more time to train and prepare in the morning?

 

Completely agree. A couple of reasonably decent signings and we will have a strong first 11 barring injuries.

 

I think Clarke shaded MOTM today, thought both Sutton and Watts did a good job, Cooke had another quite game, it could leave the gate open for Evans to slip into that role.
Novak got into some good scoring positions and even though he missed a couple as most strikers do at times he took two of them and got us the 3 points.

 

@bantam2708 posted earlier that Novak had an appaling game aside the 2 goals! I really hope he plays shit like that every week and scores 2 goals.

I agree. Ok I was being too happy clappy but I think a couple of signings will be enough. One with genuine pace. Stops teams playing a high line

 

I can only think that Stuart kept Guthrie on so as not to totally destroy what little confidence he has left in his own ability. The last 10 minutes was crying out for someone (DMH or Ismail) with a bit of pace to take advantage of the space Stevenage were leaving. Thought that at times we played some lovely football and hopefully this win will give them more confidence. Just one other thing, they need to get Staunton and Wood out on the training ground wearing slippers on their left feet so that they have to use their right foot every time. If it was good enough for Shankly then it's good enough for us.

 

I like the look of our midfield. Watt looks like a tidy player, Sutton looked like an energetic ball winner that can get up and down the pitch and Cooke is steady away on the ball. I also think Clarke in the CAM/#10 looks really good (didn’t expect this) and has showed some good touches.

Bring back both O’Connors and i would say the defence is looking ok, Staunton looks worthy of his place so it’s for SM to decide who partners him (I guess AOC).

I think if we can a pacey striker to partner Novak, who can run in behind then we will do well.

 

I liked this post but would add that, so far, Cooke has been quite disappointing and I think Evans will provide decent competition to that slot in the team.

 

Strikers in the past have missed sitters, at leagues one and two it goes with the territory, I'll hold my hand up I thought the first half header was a poor effort, as yourself not a great game but there to score the two of four chances he had, I believe it was the great Jimmy Greaves who said he's happy scoring 1 out of 3 chances.

 

As AOC should have done last week at FGR before the lad got in the box.
