By 'controlling a game' I mean 'most of it', not 100% all of it all the time never playing a bad ball. We played a few bad balls, and Cooke was probably the main culprit. So what? I haven't seen the stats, but we definitely controlled in terms of possession and Stevenage had to look to play on the break - which actually isn't the worst thing, because Wood is excellent at recovering, and our midfield is pretty mobile.

Clarke has been very good so far, no real surprise, we know exactly what he's capable of. He's a good footballer, and ideal for Stuart.

Guthrie is poor, I've said that continuously, Cooke was poor, and that was a second choice back line.

I don't really care what people 'think' about Stevenage, whether we should be beating them or not, what does it matter? We DID beat them, that's the vital thing, and we were within a whisker of beating Forest Green away last weekend as well.

Frankly, we haven't hit top gear yet and we're unbeaten, have yet to be outplayed, have yet to be outfought, and have yet to be out-strategised. I'm sorry if you feel you have to defend your typically negative stance, but I'm not really seeing it so far.

 

Yesterday we played some of the best football we have played for a long while. With good performances from Sutton Watt and Clarke all new arrivals this season and Staunton whilst still a lot to learn again showing what a good prospect he is. All in all after a very gritty point last week playing with 9 men for thirty minutes and very nearly getting all three points it’s a decent start to the season I think the addition of a bit of pace and there is no reason we can’t have a good season

 

Get Hiwula to partner Novak instead of Guthrie, and there will be the making of a decent side there.

 

I thought we moved the ball around nicely at times today.

Clarke had a great game. Sutton and Watt great energy.

Its good that we are unbeaten and not at full speed yet. This league seems to be panning out to be quite poor so a couple of decent players in next week and we can maybe start to look forward to a decent season.

It was good that we didn't capitulate and had the resolve to win.

They were unbeaten and I think the travelling today definitely affected them but a win is a win.

 

What impressed me today was how we controlled the game. Their goal came against the run of okay, and while we didn't create enough first half, we were playing some decent expansive football.

Stevenage hadn't lost yet, and weren't going to be easy.

 

With Novak and Guthrie up front, we’re not going to win many matches.

 

Agreed. But, on the other hand, we played some lovely one touch, pass & move football at times today. Billy Clarke was superb and Sutton & Watt both look good players who combine creativity with some grit. A decent finisher to play alongside Novak would see us give most defences in this league problems.

Unbeaten, 5 points, let's be honest, it's not do bad.

If our start is deemed unacceptable, I think it's time to accept reality.

@bantam2708 posted earlier that Novak had an appaling game aside the 2 goals! I really hope he plays shit like that every week and scores 2 goals.

It always is. Same pattern in every game. Tidy in midfield, soft at the back toothless up front

That was a half decent performance, Clarke was good, Novak scored 2 of 3 chances (all strikers miss chances), for me Guthrie looks so slow and is the weak link.

 

French has had a good start to the season and has got two assists now. More than DMH and Ismail who have probably had the same amount of opportunity so fair play to him. Hope he can keep his place.

 

I like Novak, he gets himself into some really good positions, granted he should be scoring some of the chances that he misses, but I think if you give him two really good chances, he'll score one of them. Given that we are playing in league two, there aren't many better strikers than that.
