Each of those players can probably do a job individually in a team of more experienced players. But thrown in together at once, not so much.

 

massively disappointed in how poor evans has been for us this time round. hes the big earner i would absolutely be looking to bin off at the first opportunity now the rest of the deadwood is out. happy with ROD as a backup to Hornby, and I think long term its better ROD's gone to shit so we can let hornby get some proper game time being the younger of the two.

all things considered a loss isn't the end of the world, it's probably just validated adams belief in what his first XI is. A crap second string will not be an issue unique to us in this division, and I highly doubt we would field that side in proper games barring a horrendous injury crisis anyway. As has been alluded to already, I think swapping one or two of those into the first XI would be fine where they've got better players around them and the side is more settled, particularly at the back. rotating your entire xi will always make you look disjointed. I would still say pre-season has been positive overall.

 

I think those 2 might have been exactly who the comments were aimed at. And lets be honest, we know that most of the young lads have a long way to go - they were only really given a crack last year as a result of the squad being so cheaply assembled.

 

Couldn't agree more. Another thought to add, unless we suffer an injury/suspension crisis from Hell, there is no way Sikora, Staunton, Cousin-Dawson and Scales would be playing together in the same team. One, maybe two if times were tough, but they'd have alot of much more experienced players around them to keep them on track.

 

Fingers crossed ROD and Evans won't be playing a significant part of the season.

Really should have finished 2-1 to us. Their second goal was at least two yards offside and the penalty would be nailed on in a league game.
Angol and Vernam looked pretty lively. We kept the ball far better second half.
Second half team looked like men. First half team looked liked boys, which most of them were.

 

Of course they will. And they'll all be much more effective with more experienced/better players around them. Well, not sure about Evans and RO'D, but the rest will.

 

No that first half team will ONLY BE SEEN individually when there are injuries. Anyone think that’s our first 11 in the first half is just plain stupid.

 

This has been a very good pre season one poor 45 minutes doesn’t change that

 

I think there was reverse psychology going on.

Play your 2nd 11 first while the opposition is at its strongest
Bring on the 1st 11 to see how they deal with the pressure of being behind.

There will be concerns after losing to an NL side. But I dont buy this because we have shown enough (including our younger players) to be encouraged by the season that awaits us. Adams knows what he wants from the group and I have every confidence that the players are going to respond. If they dont then something has gone seriously array !

I think our young players need to experence first team football and this game was right for them to do so. Adams knows his starting XI ; its not like the past 3-4 seasons when no regular team shape emerged. Adams knows how he wants to play and will drag these players over the finish line if he needs to. We need to add a "different forward" in the No10 shirt and we can go in to the new season with justified confidence imo.

 

Yes, I agree and he hasn't really played that well in any of the positions he's been in!!

 

Adams just about stopped short of naming and shaming from what I’ve heard. I dare say he has spoken to the players he meant and put them fully in the picture. Didn’t watch but after the first 6 mins, maybe the young lads knuckled down to it a bit better. Certainly the 2nd half team played much much better. A worthwhile exercise I reckon.

 

Looking more of a 'second string' line up tonight... hope they put in another strong performance to stake their respective claims and see how the younger players get on too. Bit worrying Cook needing to be used again, goes to show we could do with another striker coming in to share the load

 

Foulds, Kelleher, Sikora and Cousin-Dawson is a very inexperienced back four, and looking very much like it.

 

Our old loanee in goal for Chesterfield Scott Loach from Watford highly thought of at the time.
