A season of non league football is probably just what the likes of Sikora, FCD and Scales need.

 

It will be interesting to see what team he puts out against Accrington on Saturday. I think DA may surprise a few and put a fair few of the first half squad out to start against Accrington.

What I would like to know is what the issue /time frame with Songo'o

 

I do agree. It's the perfect time to understand the limitations. I said on Sunday, I wanted us to lose last night. I'll go further and like to see many of the starting XI last night, start on Saturday. We will need that first half XI and if that group of players ain't good enough, then as a squad, is it good enough to challenge for the ultimate goal?

As an example. Cook has to get minutes. Angol has shown promise but you can't put a seasons worth of promise/expectation into this lad. Cook and Angol, as we stand, are our front line....

 

Yes agreed, fair point. However there has to be a point where the (deemed) at least half the first 11-16 squad can be confident of lasting 90?
Forwards and midfielders are more likely to be pulled off than the back four/ keeper once the season starts in ernest?

 

The 16 number you quote is similar to my thinking.

 

Could be a final chance for several. Thinking ROD and Evans specifically, before they are consigned to stints on the bench.

 

I think those 2 might have been exactly who the comments were aimed at. And lets be honest, we know that most of the young lads have a long way to go - they were only really given a crack last year as a result of the squad being so cheaply assembled.

It was good, I agree. The commentary made me laugh …sounded like two old blokes having a chat in their allotment.

There will be concerns after losing to an NL side. But I dont buy this because we have shown enough (including our younger players) to be encouraged by the season that awaits us. Adams knows what he wants from the group and I have every confidence that the players are going to respond. If they dont then something has gone seriously array !

I think our young players need to experence first team football and this game was right for them to do so. Adams knows his starting XI ; its not like the past 3-4 seasons when no regular team shape emerged. Adams knows how he wants to play and will drag these players over the finish line if he needs to. We need to add a "different forward" in the No10 shirt and we can go in to the new season with justified confidence imo.

 

Ha ha. The thing with Evans is nobody has any idea what position he’s best suited to. Is it CM? RW? CF? RWB? I’ve no idea anymore and he’ll be on a good wage having been at Pompey

 

Yes, I agree and he hasn't really played that well in any of the positions he's been in!!

 

Just watch him in and around the play down our left flank when Chesterfield scored their first goal last night.

Adams just about stopped short of naming and shaming from what I’ve heard. I dare say he has spoken to the players he meant and put them fully in the picture. Didn’t watch but after the first 6 mins, maybe the young lads knuckled down to it a bit better. Certainly the 2nd half team played much much better. A worthwhile exercise I reckon.

 

Couldn't agree more. Another thought to add, unless we suffer an injury/suspension crisis from Hell, there is no way Sikora, Staunton, Cousin-Dawson and Scales would be playing together in the same team. One, maybe two if times were tough, but they'd have alot of much more experienced players around them to keep them on track.
