Awesome signing this! Work and live near Derby and a few mates are big Derby fans so been to a fair few games. He splits opinion there tbh, but I always thought he played a passing brand of football better than the players around him so he was sometimes made to look ordinary. Check out his season 14/15 highlights when at Huddersfield with Scannel. Iniesta or what!

You may be correct, but that doesn't account for why O'Donnell constantly waves everyone forward and launches bombs down the middle onto opposing CBs' heads when there are opportunities on for quick throws out to our fullbacks. It looks to me like instruction from Hopkin to get it up the pitch directly.

We have a plethora of skilful ball players and have just added two more. Surely to goodness we have to ease up on the hoofball?

Yes I see that. But if he does give it to the full backs, then our skilful players need to show for them so they don't hoof it

Those compilation videos can be a bit deceptive but he's certainly capable of picking a defence splitting pass.

Not many players who are as strong with either foot reminds me of beagrie with the twist and turns. Also how many times did he set up scannell in those videos only for him to mess it up.

True if I had one minor criticism and I’m being picky that’s what he always seemed to be looking for when there were players in space. Mind you lots of players can play safe passes. It’s the risky ones which get you goals

There’s a difference between citing him as a good player with good credentials and bugging him up as a “top-end Championship” player.

He may have been once upon a time, but the fact he hasn’t been able to get games, suggests he no longer is. Let’s not big him up just yet, eh..!

So why is O’Donnell’s 1st thought to punt it downfield? Never looks to see if he can roll it out to the lads in front of him. He only sees the ‘hoof’.

If this isn’t a Hopkin tactic, why doesn’t he speak to O’Donnell about it?

For the same reason Pickford isn't deterred from sudden 80 yard punts down field - you just never know.

If the coaching staff have faith in O'Donnell's drop kicks, presumably they think they'll come good now and again and is an adequate weapon.

Or perhaps, the manager at Derby is wrong not to pick him? It isn't like he's picked him and he's been poor, from all accounts, Lampard ostracised him from day one. So he's hardly had the chance to fail, or not be as good as he once was.

Hopkin said he had Championship and other L1 clubs in for him but that he tugged on his heartstrings and convinced him to come and play at his hometown club for a few months. So as I said in my post that you replied to, hats off to us as a club, to DH and to Butterfield for making it happen.

His career suggests he's a top-end Championship player and I am stunned we have him.

If he's poor now, then we've lost nothing because look where we are. If he's anything like the player he once was (as you said), we are buzzing.

I'm a half full cup kinda bloke.

Lampard has only been in charge this season, right? So his previous Derby manager didn’t rate him either? He only started twice and featured in 3 games under Rowett the season before.

As I said, on paper he is a good player and a cracking signing for this level. But to claim he’s still a ‘top end Championship player’ is pushing it somewhat.

But every time? As an occasional tactic I get it. But not every single time he has the ball in his possession.

'Spoke' to three footie fans on Social media, last night - One Hudds, Barnsley and Derby.
All three wrote highly of Butterfield, and suggest he could tear Lge 1 apart, on his day. His opportunities have been limited at Derby .......... So will have knocked his confidence, no doubt ?

The general consensus was: 'Supporters moan more in negativity, rather than celebrate in positivity.'
Kinda like bad news travels faster than good, though occurring less often.

A fair signing, IMO - Yet to bear any fruit, but really could turn our season around (If only short term). :)
We've been screaming for a game changer - Maybe NOW we have one ? .............. We'll see ...........

Well I am glad we have Jacob, he is positive and wants to prove he is still a first class player and he has chosen our club to make his comeback. That is good as far as I am concerned.
