Unbelievable signing. Two-footed, likes a shot, can create, has experience, in his prime, a top-end Championship player on loan, to his hometown club. I say complete hats off to the club for making it possible and to the player for fancying it.

 

Fair to say no one called this until today. Top midfielder alongside O Brien puts us up with their with the better midfields. The fulcrum of the side

A really good signing IMO.

Was at Huddersfield 4 years ago and was easily our best player then.

Played with Scannell here and linked with him brilliantly. Both played their best football in their careers that year.

Think we sold him for about £8 mill and he's never really looked as good but he's stepping down a level now and could prove a good move for both player and club to reignite his career and your campaign in survival.

His career suggests he's a top-end Championship player.

Before he signed, there were people on here suggesting we only signed dumplings. So forgive me for seeing him as a much better breed of arrival and hyping him up. I forgot, you've to be a miserable sod to support City and post on here. I ought to deactivate.

I thought he was one of the few to come out with credit.

Two good feet, good eye for a pass, you can see he’s a technical and clever player. Every time the centre halves had it, he made himself available for the ball. They rarely gave it to him.

 

Mellor coming back as CB cover with P O'Connor sitting out would be my guess.

 

I was delighted to hear we’d pulled this signing out of nowhere. He’s 28, so still the right side of 30. If talk of his wages are true then we’ve got a 25-30k pw player for a minor contribution purely because he’s a Bradford lad and wanted to play here!

True, he hasn’t figured for Frank Lampard but he has a Championship pedigree. Look forward to seeing how he gets on.

 

Perhaps Butterfield can be the man to come and take the ball from our defenders so they don't get themselves under pressure and have to hoof. I've thought for a while that often they are left with no other option because the midfield or forwards aren't showing for them

You may be correct, but that doesn't account for why O'Donnell constantly waves everyone forward and launches bombs down the middle onto opposing CBs' heads when there are opportunities on for quick throws out to our fullbacks. It looks to me like instruction from Hopkin to get it up the pitch directly.

We have a plethora of skilful ball players and have just added two more. Surely to goodness we have to ease up on the hoofball?

 

Or perhaps, the manager at Derby is wrong not to pick him? It isn't like he's picked him and he's been poor, from all accounts, Lampard ostracised him from day one. So he's hardly had the chance to fail, or not be as good as he once was.

Hopkin said he had Championship and other L1 clubs in for him but that he tugged on his heartstrings and convinced him to come and play at his hometown club for a few months. So as I said in my post that you replied to, hats off to us as a club, to DH and to Butterfield for making it happen.

His career suggests he's a top-end Championship player and I am stunned we have him.

If he's poor now, then we've lost nothing because look where we are. If he's anything like the player he once was (as you said), we are buzzing.

Well I am glad we have Jacob, he is positive and wants to prove he is still a first class player and he has chosen our club to make his comeback. That is good as far as I am concerned.
