I'm completely confused. Who is saying that it's bad for the economy having overseas artists taking slots that could go to British artists? I never said that.
I'm in favour of a free exchange of artists between Europe and the UK. This current situation benefits no one.

You said its bad for the economy. Restricting overseas artists from coming here (which by their definition opens slots for UK artists to play) is the reality of the situation.

I'm absolutely for making it easier for genuine artists from the EU and around the world to play here. I don't see a distinction. But I'm not against having some criteria to make sure that they're genuine - you shouldn't just have 4 Chinese fellas deciding they can all play the guitar so that they can get a work visa for example. Now whether that criteria is right I don't know....but as I keep saying at least its now in our power to change it if necessary.

When I said it's bad for the economy I was talking about our musicians. The music industry is one of our great success stories since at least the 1960s. We have a worldwide international reputation for our music, across multiple genres. Restrictive practices that make it harder for our musicians to export their talents and learn their craft by touring Europe are detrimental. And restricting continental musicians from coming here just makes it more likely that other countries will make life more difficult for our musicians. Cultural exchange is good. It shouldn't be seen as a threat. It was all so much easier and more sensible before Brexit introduced this negative mindset.

I think you (and others) are jumping the gun. Even Jacob Rees-Mogg said it will take up to 50 years to reap the benefits.

There are numerous leave voters who have contributed to this thread. I'm sure many will be able to confirm that they expected the country to take a short to medium term hit.

Not sure how many will be around in 50 years to see if Mr Rees-Mogg was correct. A lot of things will happen over that time. I must admit I thought things would be wonderful after three and a half years. After all if we are no longer sending £350,000,000 a week to Brussels, the £63,000,000,000 we have saved, will surely have provided enough money for over 160 new hospitals. Not sure where the government has hidden them?

Shame that's not what they were saying before the referendum though. The minority of Brexit cheerleaders who admitted that economic hardship was a possibility only did so after they had narrowly won the referendum by promising huge economic benefits. There was no mention of deferred gratification at that time. In the referendum campaign, whenever Remainers dared to suggest that there would be economic detriments to Brexit they were dismissed as peddling 'Project Fear'. It's very clear that the referendum was won on the false promise of immediate gains. It was a con.

The vast numbers of Brexit voters who are now saying that Brexit was a mistake suggests that most of them believed that Brexit would make a short term positive impact to their pockets and their quality of life, not that they would have to wait decades for ill-defined benefits that may never come.

We are still paying the EU and iwill do so for a few more years. We also are still having to apply EU laws. We are unlikly to fully free of EU restrictions for a few years yet as brexit will take a few more years to untangle

We are weak now and will remain weak

We are already being left in the dust around a number of issues. It was predicted also.

A country of our size cannot compete in this world. We could and did compete as a big player in the EU. We had a winning formula and we retained a lot of power and influence in the globe. Thats undeniable!

We grew from being an irrelevant off shore island to a major super power through the growth in mercantile trade. We gained an Empire, which gave us access to massive resources and also a market place for our own goods.

That has gone. However as traditional industry declined, then as I understand it, our position as a financial powerhouse grew. Operating within the EU, gave us a ready marketplace, and an edge over some of the other none EU finance players.

Leaving the EU, has cast us off into a little island once again. A lot of financial institutions are growing their New York business. We are now restricted with Europe and our products will become less competitive.

If we wait and appraise Brexit in say 50 years, then it may well be a good move, on the other hand it may well be disastrous.

I won’t be around to ‘benefit’ from it in 50 years. Even my kids will be pensioners by then.

Some in the car industry have described the plant as the most important investment in UK automotive since Nissan came to Britain in the 1980s.

The investment could lead to the creation of up to 9,000 jobs around Bridgwater in Somerset. But its significance lies in the boost it will give to the car manufacturing sector as it transitions from petrol and diesel to making electric vehicles.

It’s made harder because of our lack of access to the continental market. So it’s a form of bribery. I feared brexit would be a disaster. And everyday I am getting it confirmed

It doesn't seem to be a problem with the Tata Group they had a rival site in Spain but chose the UK, that's confirming brexit is a disaster, I'd say it's exactly the opposite in this case or they would have gone for Spain which is i the EU.

This country has been in decline for decades as a big player at the top table, Brexit just quickened the process.

I don't know how any party can turn it around Sunak sacking Minister because they will give him a hard time with regards NI.
