I was being facetious Steve, you can't dismiss long term fears after a week. Christ i know i'm daft but i ain't that daft. Between now and the end of Johnsons reign you will have countless politicians on both sides of the argument telling us its a success/failure depending on what suits your their agenda at the time. Heck i even saw Corbyn claiming he had won the argument in the media after the election defeat. But thats politics for you, the 'truth' is what you want it to be.
Same sh1t different day for the vast majority of us.

You can't blame us leavers bathing in a bit of glory after Thursday, after all every man and his dog were quite happy to watch every possible move forward being kicked into touch by the other parties.
I have no regret at all in my tactical voting my only disappointment being Judith Cummings not losing her seat.
What have I missed today Boris welcoming Lindsay Hoyle into his new role as speaker and a bit of banter from the dispatch box, not sure that Labour could offer after last Thursday, could any opposition party have done any worse, even the leader couldn't make his mind up and claimed to be neutral.

If you want to resurrect what key politicians said at the time of the referendum, let's not forget what Boris said about staying in the single market after Brexit in his 'famous' cake and eat it speech; or what Gove said about staying in a free trade area stretching from Iceland to Turkey (that's the customs unions by another name) or what Hannan (chairman of VoteLeave) said that nobody would be daft enough to suggest that the UK would leave the single market. All of that is a far cry from the way the current negotiations are progressing under Boris' direction when we leave the SM and the CU. If we leave the EU without a free trade deal, food will be more expensive under WTO tariffs and that's on top of the increased cost we've already felt from the pound's drop against the dollar and the euro since the referendum.

It did not take remainders on here long to quote the financial markets the morning after the referendum vote, as you say markets will fluctuate.
Agree there was some bollox talked and it was not only from the leave side.
Reading the press today Boris is going to try and get the leaving date of December 2020 made law then no extension can be asked for or given, now both sides will have to focus on the deal.

Anyone, Remainer or Brexiteer, focusing on short term fluctuations to make a point is an idiot. It's the medium/long term effect on GDP etc that matters.
They'll never get a comprehensive deal done before the end of next year. It will be broad brush at best. So we'll have customs borders etc. Seems pretty daft to me, but Johnson loves playing to the gallery.

I was referring to the two most important men in the Tory party with regards leaving the EU, the Prime Minister and the Chancellor of the Exchequer I'm not sure at the time Johnson & Gove were listened too like Cameron & Osborne, but no doubt your correct with regards others comments.

Just pointing out posters used it to support their argument and few picked them up at the time.

Listening to people with regards your "getting a deal done" by December 2020 they said the same, if its not done by then doesn't the default position of "no deal" kick in, as I say maybe that will make both side focus on getting it done ?.

Yes, No Deal would kick in if nothing agreed by December 2020. That's why the informed comment is saying there'll be a broad brush agreement, which Johnson can herald as a great new deal, which would almost certainly involve customs checks etc. Johnson doesn't want No Deal. He may be clownish but he's not stupid. He knows that it would be an economic disaster for us. So he'll agree something vague to avoid No Deal and then take much longer to negotiate the details, leaving him able to claim he got Brexit done by December 2020. But in reality Brexit won't be fully done for years.

Boris and Gove were both high profile MPs (one was Lord Mayor of London and the other a senior member of Cameron's cabinet) and they were the two leading political members of the Leave campaign. Of course they were listened to and their speeches well covered by the media. Have you forgotten that?

This was the comment I posted "I'm not sure at the time Johnson & Gove were listened too like Cameron & Osborne" your above is correct they were two high profile members of the Leave campaign, but they didn't have the respect (for want of a better word) than David & George had.

Interesting there is talk of bringing in private sector experts rather than civil servants to negotiate the FTA and the one with the USA. Also talk of bringing in outsiders to run other departments much like the Nicky Morgan arrangement, I think people under estimate Boris on this, He is an enabler who drives others to deliver,

That's how he ran London apparently, delegating responsibilities to others, good management...

Tony Blair trying to take center stage saying the terrible Election result should not be whitewashed over.
Could Blair be throwing his hat into the political ring again ?.

As much as i can't stand the plastic tory he certainly knew how to play the system. But could people ever vote again for a politician now proved to be a war monger? In his hey day he would have wiped the floor with Johnson to the point of embarrassment. Personally i never want to see him anywhere near politics in this country again.

A quote from the guardian on what has been removed from the withdrawal bill.

"The removal of clauses pledging alignment with the EU on workers’ rights. The government on Thursday promised in the Queen’s speech that workers’ rights would instead be “protected and enhanced” under an employment bill."

I distinctly remember being told this wouldnt happen and Boris cares blah blah blah.

Well we are leaving the EU so it would make sense to put it in our own bill? I was also told hundreds of times that we were selling the NHS...

Or its the first step to a complete removal of rights for workers. Torys are torys after all. The NHS was never getting sold off it was the fact we would pay more for drugs. This is still going ahead. We save £10billion a year leaving the EU but spend £27billion more on drugs to the USA as a result.

    Slow hand clap....
