How's the £ doing against the $ and Euro, it was all doom and gloom after the referendum result, could it become over valued with a Boris win, then our imports will be cheaper but our exports will be dearer, can't win can we ;).

Well the country has spoken and Brexit will now be done, Boris as usual is in a hurry, He has scheduled 2 parts of the bill on Friday and we will meet the January deadline to legally leave the EU, 12 months for the next stage is called unlikely by most but although he is weak on details he has enormous drive to achieve outcomes and the EU are well aware now of his determination in negotiations so will be interesting

Will should demand a better deal now Boris has an unasaleable majority in the Commons, the Northern Ireland situation is not acceptable, and neither is sharing British fishing waters, without consesions on other parts of the negotiations.
After what we have been through over the last few years and possibly futrue years it has to be the right deal, and if not we have to make the EU negotiators aware we will walk with no deal, lets hope we don't need to use it.

Lets see how Johnson deals with this pathetic civil unrest. Few cans of tear gas should do the trick. Or a nice shiny water cannon.

One of the reasons Labour lost, this sort of behaviour turned away a lot voters, the social media mob led by the likes of Owen Jones and his ilk. Remember back to the eighties when real people were demonstrating for real reasons, villages been decimated, miners losing their livelyhoods. Those w"nkers demonstrating last night don't know how lucky they are, most of them haven't the first clue what its like to be poor, just listen to their over privileged voices. Set the dogs on them Boris.

Can one of you answer this honestly and dont take it as a dig. Im just intrigued.

Now its all over is there a part of you that is apprehensive about what Boris will do? I.e. he may align us so closely its BRINO and not Brexit.

Im not saying it will happen i just want to know now you have such a majority and you dont have to argue he is the second coming of jesus. Is there that part of you that as men/women of experience is apprehensive about what he will do now he has the mandate to rule. After all nobody expected he would win by such a margin.

Of course there is apprehension, no one really knows how the future will pan out. With Brexit, and public services being stretched to breaking point it remains to be seen just wether he will see out a competent game plan or have the public on his back as early as next year.

Looks like the money/financial markets are more than happy with the General Election result, the £ doing well and the Footsie going through the roof up another 2.36% 176 points.

You say that, the pound to dollar rate and FTSE 100 are pretty much exactly where it was before the election, as you’d expect.

The FTSE 250 is doing reasonably well on the other hand. But you’d expect a lot of these gains after any majority government being elected.

    A majority Brexit government ;).
I was getting 1 Euro to the pound back in August, not doubt as Boris starts negotiations with the EU it will fluctuate, great Christmas present.
On the flip side God only knows where the finacial markets would have been with a Mr Neutral win, now in fighting with regards whether Emily Thornberry call Caroline Flints constituents thick or not.

We were told before the referendum vote it was all doom & gloom, emergency budget where tax's would have to be raised, food would be more expensive, Boris says this government will cut tax's lets see who's right.

Only George Osborne said that, and he's the worst Chancellor of the Exchequer in living memory. Short term rises and falls in the pound are neither here nor there. Most Remainers are much more concerned about the medium/long term future.

The big issues are whether we can get a decent trade deal with the EU, how much alignment with EU rules we have to accept etc. And if we end up accepting a bad deal, or end up with a No Deal Brexit at the end of next year, what kind of trade deals with the USA, China, India etc will we get armtwisted into accepting? The point is, can we thrive economically on our own or will we suffer from losing the protections and negotiating muscle of the EU.
These things will take several years to work out. Dismissing Remainer fears because it hasn't all gone tits up in the first few days of Johnson's government is just silly.

And we were also told that we'd get £350m per week for the NHS from leaving, but no one now believes that. A lot of things were said before the referendum and many of them were bollocks.

It doesnt matter who is right. Your side will just deny its bad or say its someone elses fault i.e. the EU or remainers.

Its the brexit side that avoids scrutiny or twists reality. I dont expect you will agree.

My one hope after thursday was that a bit more rationale and pragmatism will come back into debate but after today i can see its all going to carry on as was.
