The deal offered and negotiated is a good deal apart from one clause that kills it, Under the deal we will leave the EU Parliament and sever all political ties with the EU, Citizens rights will be preserved, There will be an end to free movement and immigration, We will not make yearly contributions to the EU, We will get our borders back and our national waters will be restored, We will have the right to negotiate and ratify trade deals with other countries but not make them live untill the end of the transition period, Plus numerous other benefits,
BUT the one item that kills it dead is the Irish Backstop where we have to get the EU to allow us to finally leave the customs union and thus the final tie, This puts the power of our final leaving in the hands of the EU and unless this can be changed then the deal is dead IMO

I agree although May was saying when she gave her Brexit speech last week that the EU did not want us to stay in the backstop indefinitely they wanted us out as early as possible, I don't necessarily believe that to be true, so go back and put that situation to them, lets see if they are that bothered or not, because one thing for sure she will not get it through as it is.

Interesting that voting leave immediately means you're somehow closely associated with Boris Johnson.

The current Labour plan for a deal is to stay in the customs union and single market on a permanent basis, This would mean,Paying £billions to the EU every year, Free movement of people from the EU and no limit on immigration, Free movement of capital to the EU, Not been able to agree trade deals independently of the EU and agreeing to them arranging them on our behalf, Agreeing to all EU laws and loss of sovereignty, We would lose all say in the EU as all our officials and politicians would leave, In fact the only difference from staying in the EU is that we would have no say in the future of the EU as we have now. Some Deal

Surely pretty much everything is opinion on what is going to happen rather than facts?

I agree that the proposed deal, making us a rule taker, is just ridiculous. We need to abandon it .

I will make the point that we export over £250 billion of goods and services every year to the EU. If we see our contribution to the EU as a market entry cost, then that doesn't seem to bad.

How much will it cost us to agree trade deals around the world, if we leave the EU? Markets we want to access don't come for free. People get excited about our 'foreign aid' budget, when in fact a significant amount effectively greases the wheels of trade.

There is a huge amount of pain coming our way, if we leave the EU.

well just the first page he assumes we will lose trade with the EU and over 70 countries and that will effect nearly 70% of our trade, This is wrong because our biggest trade is with the USA which at over 30% of our trade by itself yet no mention of this, Trade with the commonwealth is not mentioned which will not be affected but his assumption trade will stop with the EU and the other 70 countries is ludicrous, We will go to WTO terms until new agreements are made and although the EU may play silly buggers with us the 70+ he mentions will agree no tariff trade very quickly because it would affect them more than us given they sell more to us than we then, The rest of the article is flawed the same way but am not prepared to spend hours going through every item and posting. As have said there is not long to wait to see who is right and whether we have life after the EU or as the blinkered but staunch remainders think the end of the world will will happen and all life cease to exist

The reason the leave vote won was purely down to the complacent attitude of the remainers. No one really believed we would actually vote to leave. Only 34.73% of the electorate actually got off their arses and voted.
Thats a piss poor effort by UK citizens. 2 out of 3 weren't that bothered to vote. Again I think of the complacency that 65.27% probably thought remain would win.
I was surprised there wasn't a minimum % turnout threshold applied to validate the vote.
Scotland keep harping on that they voted to remain yet after a general election they don't ask that the vote be re run so that the SNP could get into Government instead of the Tories.

brexit is a catastrophe for the UK. If we had never joined in the first place and we had been given the prospect of joining instead of leaving I think people wouldnt be that opposed to it.

The world is entering a new epoch and small nations will not be able to compete for resources. Im a proud British person and I think leave voters have the best intentions for the UK but that brexit will actually reduce our global power.

Sorry leavers but brexit is bad for us.

As it wasn’t decided what Leave meant before the vote so Leave could mean anything

Yer, fair point to be honest.

Leaving and Brexit could mean different things to different people.

Right. So you’re proposing that the death rate of under 40s is broadly the same as the rate for over 50s?

We are in a customs union right now. In simple terms its a system of shared regulations. In terms of trade it means if the EU sign a free trade deal with USA, Japan, Australia or other that we also share that trade deal. Any tariffs that are applied to goods outside of the EU are imposed by each member equally. It is designed so that if you make shoes in the UK you have the same rules as a shoe maker in Italy. The same fees for importing raw materials from outside the EU etc.

For our industries its better to be in a customs union because they can trade without barriers within the EU. As a member of the EU we can also throw our weight into the mix and when trade deals are negotiated we can work together to get a better deal. For example under TTIP the EUs deal prevented the NHS from being plundered by the USA health giants. It stopped harmful hormone meat coming into our markets undercutting our farmers.

Being in a customs union and the other side being 27 nations strong versus our 1. Would mean that we would end up taking rules with little chance of influencing them. So we end up having our trade law, workers laws and a ton more being dictated to us. As well as a payment for membership as you stated.

So you cannot have brexit and be in a customs union.

Whereas, being a member of the EU gives us 73 MEPs which is way more than most except france and germany. Most countries in the EU have about 5 or 6 MEPs. So we have a lot of clout when it comes to the rule making. Our current deal with the EU makes us a special nation as we dont have to join the Euro, we dont have Schengen and we get a big rebate.

Brexit is a decision people are entitled to make but above ^^^ is just some facts.
