We’ve all seen plenty of games where we’ve played well and got beat which we have no problem with.
Like you say it’s the lack of anything positive(bar the Lewis save in the 2nd half) that hurts most about todays game.

I also thought he was really poor today but he wasn’t helped by Lewis giving him some awful passes right on the touch line.
Stockport jumped on this and he really struggled.

we’ve been getting away with it for a while now and if we don’t wake up or change something then expect a fair few results like this :( we have a team that is capable of doing more but sadly this possession football ain’t helping us at all .............. soon as Oliver came in it should have been non stop balls into the box but this slow build up wasn’t working at all today ............ teams are high pressing us because they know within 10 passes we will either give it away or pass it into touch .............Hughes needs to realise that this sort of play was fine at his previous clubs with far better players ........... this lot ain’t near that standard

Recent performances suggest another mid table finish.

Quite a few need to up there game asap.

Worryingly midfield never takes control of a game.

Slightly harsh analysis as he was as good as most city players today, but I do agree with you he was woeful.

I generally find Cook a confusing and sometimes frustrating player. He can be very good, and I was first to admit I’d been wrong in some of my past opinion of him. But if he’s not good he’s generally pretty poor. Hughes has mentioned several times he’s a confidence player, driven by when he’s scoring. Trying to think of game when Cook has played well but not scored - cannot think of any?

Leads me to think if he’s not scoring, what else do we get from him (genuine question, not a bashing)?

Now let me also say some of his performances this season have been really good, and his goal return is fantastic. Nothing but credit to him for that, especially given his ending to last season. But I do think Hughes needs to work on our impact at the top end of the pitch and how he can use other assets better, other than just Cook and one way of playing over and over again.

Some of the opposition managers have already sussed us. Play an open game allowing us plenty of space and time with the ball and it will work to our strengths. Alternatively, defend in depth and don't allow us the space and time to play or close us down and harry us and we struggle. That was evident even at the start of the season against the likes of Donny and Barrow and we still don't appear to have learned from those games. And yesterday was more of the same. Our approach is so predictable.

We flatter to deceive at times.

Walker has been a huge loss. Hughes has tried others in that central attacking role - both Chapman and Angol - but neither are as capable as Walker and playing there detracts from their own strengths. Hughes was unlucky with both Walker's and Osadebe's injuries and hasn't found a genuine alternative. Walker can't come back soon enough for me.

I'm trying not to over react to yesterday's performance which was poor but things have to change. We are predictable and that makes it easier for the opposition to counter our strengths especially at VP where a point for the oppo might be a good result. What works away may not be equally successful at home. We have to get out of this predictable mindset if we are to be a genuine automatic promotion contender.

And this is what I struggle to understand, why have a tactic of one or the other, surely we should be mixing it up, keep the opposition guessing.

ITV making an absolute arse of their highlights of our game.
Listen to their commentary of the highlights after their penalty.
Apparently we needed to get back in to the game but Lewis’s(who was in the Stockport net) brilliant save from the Palmer header prevented us from equalising and they held on.

Sums up why ITV don’t get any decent football coverage anymore.

I blame the new proposed badge for the defeat. The players were obviously distracted with worry by the thought of wearing it on the shirt it put them off there game

It certainly will! But the warning signs have been there since the opening few games. We struggle to find a way through a massed and organised defence and we can't play in our preferred way when the opposition close us down quickly and deny us space to play in. As was demonstrated yesterday, we haven't learned how to deal with this.

Challinor had done his homework on us and no doubt others will in future games. We are predictable in open play and at set pieces and we need a Plan B (and C & D) when it's clear that the oppo have us sussed.

Whilst I agree with that, at the same time it doesn’t matter how many dimensions, how many options or what formation you play, if you’re lacking in urgency and second to every ball then I’m afraid you’re not going to achieve.
It’s that 10% we’re lacking - there’s a lot to be positive about, a lot of good things, but it all needs us to be on it for 90 minutes and giving everything we’ve got.

Does that surprise you, read some of the reasons why a couple on here want Cook dropping because he's only scored 1 in 3 games and he offers nothing if he doesn't score.

I'd still like to see Wright pulled out and see what the opposition did with regards marking him, IMO they could not risk leaving a one on one.

And I said I agree, but linos will just see the ball go over his head and see him already in the other half and give it. The rule book says you can't but as I said, try telling that to blind linesmen.

It happens in RL only these guys aren't faking it and if anything it's the exact opposite

They go off for 15minute assessment and the teams allowed a free sub until he either passes the assessment or doesn't so the sub becomes permanent

There is a very similar procedure in RU with assessments of the head injury conducted off-pitch and the use of a temporary substitution allowed while that happens. It's a very sensible approach imo in a contact sport where head collisions are not uncommon ... but less so than in football! It could work if the football authorities had the desire to implement it.

I can't debate nonsense, it just brings me down to a level that would frustrate and irritate.

Besides it being a complete myth that Cook simply stands in the box and taps it in, It's also a completely pointless debate and almost like trying to discuss what else Harry Lewis brings to the table apart from saving the ball.
