Yes and no. Not a good pass but also Songo'o doesn't really want the ball. He's not looking to receive the ball from anyone unless it's a basic pass so he wasn't expecting it or thinking the ball would come to him.

Impressed with Northampton. They're a better version of what we try to do. Play decent football but with more purpose and threat. We dick about with it on the pretense of 'playing football'. Fair play to em. Unless we adapt, we'll not be getting top 3.

 

TBH nor should he be in that position. Smallwood might have been able to play that way in the Championship and get away with a slightly stray pass as the player receiving it will have been of better quality. This is L.2 and Songo’o shouldn’t have been put in such a position.

If he'd been on the front foot and watching Smallwood then he would have seen the potential for the ball to come to him. That's the point I'm making, he's not expecting the ball to come to him but the way Hughes sets up the back line need to expect the ball to be passed to them.
