I think the problem is the ‘late’ pitch inspection. Putting it back to Noon. To get from Carlisle to Bradford takes around 2 hours 15/30 minutes depending on the traffic and weather conditions. So it is pushing it.
You also have a lot of City supporters who travel a considerable distance to get to VP.

That's the other problem as well isn't it? Maybe in the '70s fan safety didn't matter but in this day and age they can't risk a fan slipping in or even around the stadium as that's a hefty law suit coming their way

Exactly. Also, it's not just Carlisle fans or football fans in general but people can't seem to make decisions for themselves these days and face the consequences of those decisions.

The ref for this afternoon's game inspected the pitch yesterday afternoon and deemed it playable, but I bet it wouldn't have been at this time yesterday morning. I appreciate it will be frustrating for those travelling some distance, including of course the Carlisle fans if it now gets called off, but if it was the case yesterday afternoon it was playable, it makes sense to wait a bit and see how it's looking in a couple of hours. If it's called off now and then it turns out that by this afternoon it would be playable, I think there would be far more of an outcry.

    It's a good point.

If you met someone from another planet and explained what football was and then explained how the UK's climate and weather worked and then said we're going to play football in January they would say you're stupid. Plainly obvious!

When I went round Spurs a few years back they had a gigantic tent that circulated air at about 10 degrees. Worked!

We've used these before when games have been on Sky, very expensive to run.

I imagine though pitch inspections the day before have a much lower barrier to clear to be deemed safe to keep the match on than on the day. Declare a match on the day before and get it wrong it doesn't matter as you don't have fans entering the stadium or players on the pitch the day before but on the day you have both that a wrong decision could result in serious injuries

They can. If it’s starting to soften now in the sun, ( shaded spots are a problem) any time ahead where the temp will rise is advantageous.

As @Frank Castle@Frank Castle said I believe those are really expensive to run because its not something you put on ah hour before the game to 'defrost' the pitch, it needs run over a longer period to prevent longer-term damage to the pitch, its a reason why when you see them at lower division games it's usually an FA Cup game where a small team has a home game against a big team and the TV money makes it worth the outlay

No sun at the moment. @Onside@Onside can see the sun in Cullingworth, but there is still none in Shipley and I suspect none at Valley Parade too.

Ha ha. Bit early but only sign of life was the police horse lorry parked up on Midland Road. Seems misty.

I don’t really see how the situation improves in the next hour, sadly.

frustrating as its +3 degrees after noon but we can’t delay inspecting until 2.30 pm can we.

Do we have hot air blowers or anything to help?

was bang up for today but doubtful this one’s gonna be on given the temps.

I can normally see vp from bedroom window, but at the moment it’s shrouded in fog, so little chance of it thawing

Very true, but I'm guessing the thinking on having an inspection yesterday was so that an early call could be made if necessary. Had the pitch been frozen solid yesterday, there would have been no chance of it thawing out in time for the game today and I imagine it would have been called off there and then. But as it was playable yesterday and with day time temperatures today similar to yesterday, I can see why they would want to wait and have a later inspection today. It might work out well, it might not, but I'd rather the game is given every chance of being on.
Might not have the same view about that at 5pm if it does go ahead though!
