    In a pub in Skipton!!!
Pulled over there about 11.45am, then waited for the inevitable, just knew when they called the pitch inspection at 11.30am it would be off, what a bloody waste of time and money!
I think when it had got to that late in the day, then it would have been sensible to wait until at least 2pm to see if there was any chance.
Anyway had a lovely pint of Doonbars in Skipton, had a good crack with the bar staff and then tootled back to the proper North.
See you for the re-arranged match.

Absolutely not! Terrible idea, for three reasons:

    1. The summer is cricket season. Summer football would be a disaster for our national summer game.

    2. People have many other activities and calls on their time in the better summer weather - holidays, weekends away, Saturdays out with the family, friends round for BBQs, etc, etc. It's bad enough that the season now starts in early August, meaning many fans miss early season games, without creating more difficult choices in late May, June and July.

    3. Football is one of the things that makes the winter bearable. Imagine November to February with no games to attend, look forward to or discuss? Not me and, I suspect, not many football fans.

Lots of people seemingly basing their ideas about 'right' and 'wrong' based on whether it suits them or not.

I suppose it depends on what drives the decision. Giving the game the best chance to go ahead, or minimising the risk of supporters travelling needlessly.

Personally, as a fan, I'd rather give it as much chance as possible to have the game go ahead. Inform fans early, say 10am that there's a risk and a final pitch inspection will take place at say 2pm. Treat people like adults and let them decide.

First of all, where have I even said I want them to call the game off, I would rather they didn't call it off. I don't really benefit from a call off even if its an early call off as the game still needs to be played and if it's not today that I have had to block off time for its going to be a Tuesday night (which is way more problematic for me than being able to block off time on a Saturday).

I just feel that delaying decisions either way, especially if it's going to get called off wastes everyone's time. Everyone is sacrificing time be it travelling to a match that is called off or a situation like myself and the sooner people know the sooner everyone can try and make the most of it.

As for calling me selfish, that's fairly funny. I don't get paid to keep an eye on the server during the site's busiest periods. No other client whose site I host has me build my schedule around being able to be around for 3-4hours one a week (sometimes twice a week when there is a midweek game). If the site goes down during the match though it's pretty important, as a football fan I know how important it is if you cant get to a match to be able to discuss it to help have that feeling of being part of it, so I can't take a few hours working out the issue and resolving it like I might with others where there is less time sensitivity, I actually have watch the sites resource usage, process list and logs in real-time so I can see issues coming up and resolve them before it causes the site to go down or even damage to the site (an unexpected crash can cause corruption to either the sites files or database or to the server software). Again I don't have to do that or at the very least I don't have to do it for free, if most of my clients had a time-sensitive nature element to their site I would be charging them so calling me selfish just because I stated I would like to know sooner so if it was going to be off like it is I could try and make up some time in my schedule not for my own benefit but so I can make time easier for when the game is actually played, most likely on a Tuesday night

Perhaps if clubs weren't too quick to hammer referees (imagine the uproar if a long term injury happens because of the pitch) they may be more inclined to let the game play.

Clubs reap what they sow at times and it's very comfortable for those not having to have any repercussions to tell the decision makers what they should have done.

Getting beyond a joke, another free Saturday. Game will be a mid week and a real pain in the arse for many getting there after work. These frost covers seem to be useless , time for a re think and i do not mean moving to summer football.

No side of the coin can win in these circumstances.

You've got on one hand those who are travelling to the game from further afield and would prefer an early inspection so they're not wasting time and money on a potential postponement.

On the other hand, you've got those who would prefer to give it as long as possible with the possibility of the pitch thawing out and the game being able to take place.

It comes down to a matter of opinion as to which approach is better.

What is apparent though, is that when a pitch inspection is called, 9 times out of 10 the game will be postponed.

Furthermore, in the modern 'Health & Safety era', any bit of freezing weather the night before leads to a frozen pitch postponement in the 3rd tier and below, with the exception of those clubs whom have recent Premier League/Championship facilities (Portsmouth, Charlton, Ipswich, Sheff Weds et al). When prolonged freezing temperatures were forecast on both Thursday and Friday nights, anyone with an ounce of common sense would have known there wouldn't be a game today. Only the most ardent City fans, those of an old school stature who often witnessed games played on snow covered pitches with fluorescent balls, or those who are desperate to escape the house for one reason or another, will have had genuine hope that today's game would be on.

I'll be interested to watch how Callum Guy does for Carlisle, a player I believe is out off contract in the summer and would like us to go for.

Did a decent job for us a few years ago in league 1 as a youngster. He's got a high energy game and he seems to have improved alot on the ball whenever I've seen him play recently. He's won player of the year awards in recent seasons and I believe he's their captain too, so would be exactly what we need.

Not even the clubs fault. Nearly all league 2 fixtures have been postponed due to a frozen pitch so let's have some proper perspective here.

If we won every week it would just get tedious.

We live in a country where it rains a lot and is very cold for at least two months of the season and is likely to snow.

It's time the FA stepped in in some way with all this money swirling around to say x amount from this years revenue share goes to mandatory pitch equipment to ensure games go ahead unless there is real adverse conditions.

It's been done through the tiers with amounts of terracing and seating, it should be done with the pitch too.

What should they say? 'We are open just in case but it's probably going to be off so don't waste your time.'
