The winter world cup was fun and proved it doable, let's move the move season to march to October. Much more enjoyable and comfortable for fans, and less match postponements, and likely cheaper operating costs.

‘There will be a pitch inspection at 12.00pm at the University of Bradford Stadium, ahead of today’s scheduled visit of Carlisle United (3.00pm)’. https://www.bradfordcityafc.com/

Looks like they are leaving it as late as possible to see if the pitch will thaw in time.

I'm giving odds of 1/3 of the game being on!

Trying to sell tickets when they know full well it won't be on. Shady move by the club in what is a difficult month financially for most.

Would take a real gullible person to believe 17,500 will be there this afternoon

To a degree I can understand this. Passed fit yesterday and temperature to rise after 11.00, covers will be off. Trouble for me with freezing fog in Wetherby

Thicker covers I don't believe help. They don't work by providing a barrier to the cold air, instead that they allow for warmer air to be captured and circulated which can raise the temperature enough that it doesn't freeze. Thicker covers allow for less air pockets and make it harder to circulate the air. Too heavy they would also damage the grass. Also with less circulating you potentially get issues with condensation under the covers which could potentially cause its own issues.

I also believe that heat lamps aren't great for the grass, so you may get some more winter matches on but then you end the season playing on pitches with no grass in areas. Unless you have premier league-type money to spend on not only on the best turf (in most cases with a base of synthetic grass which the real grass grows around and it provides it with extra strength), the best irrigation systems, the best watering systems and the best under soil heating systems all of which cost several million to install and millions more to maintain and keep upgrading then I'm not sure there is a much that can be done to keep matches on at this level, perhaps outside moving to artificial pitches (which may have improved since the days of Luton having an artificial pitch but they are still problematic for football)

What should they say? 'We are open just in case but it's probably going to be off so don't waste your time.'

I know they want to try and ensure the match has the biggest opportunity to be on but these relatively late decisions are ridiculous. What about the fans who have to travel to the game, it might be fine for the locals but Carlise by car is 2 and a half hours away, longer by coach so a noon decision means they will have already all have set off. I find it impossible to comprehend that with previous situations and the forecast that they can't make a decision either way sooner

Delaying my departure to 10:45, with a noon stop now inserted, at Birch services (M62).

Then it's either onto Bradford or a turnaround and just over an hour's run back to Stafford.

It is incomprehensible that they can't make a decision on a game being on or off. Its clear now that the pitch isn't playable as it stands otherwise they'd have called it as on. When you have over a thousand away fans and a sizeable number of home fans who live away from Bradford, leaving them 3 hours to make the choice to come is just wrong.

I bought another pair of gloves, better be on now. Being a thrifty Yorkshire man, what a waste of money if it's off....

    Sparks out ;)

It will be on. Not sure why Carlisle fans are getting mad about the decision to do it at 12:00. Couldn't care less if they travel or not, same for City fans far away. It's a risk you take and your decision. I imagine it's because the referee won't be there until 12:00 and not the club delaying.

Artificial pitches not allowed in EFL Simon. Harrogate and Sutton had to take theirs up when they came up.

I hope they gave the covers off now as the sun will help to get rid of condensation and defrost the pitch. It is only 1c here in Cullingworth but full sun, so I am guessing it won’t re-freeze.

Feel really sorry for anyone making the decision to travel clinging on to hope that this will be on.

It's admirable that so many are blinded by their love of the club but cannot see the realism of the situation.

Even in the very unlikely event that the pitch is playable (which it isn't), there is substantial ice everywhere around the stadium.

Not a sight of any sun here in Shipley. Quite foggy.
