Yes we beat Mansfield and in the main played well. But one result/performance does not disguise the continuing trends of this regressive football club.

2020 has seen us play in all competitions 25 games. 6 wins across all those 25 games, across two managers. We have scored 25 goals, 1 a game and conceeded 37, just under 1.5 a game. 4 clean sheets to boot.

What others are doing is a narrative you may choose to use. Beating Bolton may occur (I hope you are correct) but what we are as a football club are doing is more important to me.
The stats of 2020 are not impressive in my eyes.

 

I hope i'm wrong but there are simllarities between us now and the latter end of Bowyers management spell. Critical defensive problems, an apparent allowing of teams to run through unchallenged, no decent wide player or someone who can carry the ball, a reluctance to shoot when in good positions, very little in terms of pace. There's probably a few more. If we lose on Tuesday against what is a pretty poor Bolton side then the pressure will go up another level.

 

There was so little fight in that 2nd half. They looked like they just wanted to get out of the rain. Paudie looked listless and disinterested as his passes went astray. It’s alright McCall being all pally with them and them all saying he’s the best they’ve played under, but sometimes players need a rocket under them and be afraid to get back to the dressing room and face a severe doing. Instead it’s how great Newport are.

The players seemed totally disinterested in that 2nd half and just seemed to want to get out of the rain. It’s fine McCall being all pally with them and the players really liking him, but sometimes they need a rocket and players who don’t perform should be dreading going back to the dressing room for fear of a bollocking. Instead it’s how great Newport are.

His manager has publicly blamed him for 2 of the goals on Tuesday and the one yesterday and said if it wasn't for him, they'd have won the game. Those sort of comments made publicly will either make or break him. Our front line is weak yes, but so apparently is Bolton's last line of defence - if we don't/ can't take advantage of that, then what hope is there left?

Probably yes, but it's a gift in terms of a motivational tool if used correctly. Unfortunately McCall probably won't have Adobe flash player installed on his tablet so won't have seen the comments.

Our players are constantly told how shit they are. It has never made them play better.
Stuart told us he only wanted players with thre right character and attitude, not seen much of that so far.
unfortunately i can not see a victory on tuesday. Lets hope i am wrong as losing is a habit just like wining. What would i give for a run of 3 wins on the bounce , let alone 6-7-8 on the trot , i really can not remember the lst time that happened.

Sadly I agree with you. 7 games in and I have yet to see any partnerships forming and that is down to changing the formation just about every game. The players looked like strangers yesterday.

 

It can work either way for the keeper. A good manager will know the resilience of an individual player.
