Quote from the Bolton News so I assume it's Phil Parkinson and his backroom staff.

I've been following the events at Bolton for a while as I have friends who support them. The present situation is quite incredible and perhaps might be a tipping point in football history. Put simply Bolton have had a mad owner like us, they owe a great deal of money to many creditors, they seemed to have been taken over by another maniac with a dodgy previous record, but the EFL haven't sanctioned it, the players have gone on strike and tomorrow's game is in doubt, the fans have been vilifying the players and especially Phil Parkinson's tactics for months. At least we still have a club, but I wonder how long football can go on living beyond its means. Some of their fans believe that if they go to the wall others will follow. Maybe worrying times for football in general.

The Premier League clubs are probably, to an extent, living with their means. At least in the sense that the Premier League continues to become wealthier with each negotiated television/media deal. I was reading somewhere the other day that the lowest placed Premier League team receives more television/media money than the champions of the French league do. Some of these teams could probably play in an empty stadium week after week and still have money to spare.

It seems like Bolton have been in grave danger for years. I can still remember their old owner Phil Gartside trying to engineer a Premier League division 2 with no relegation to the football league. They seemed to have plenty of money to spare the last time they were in league one, once again spending money they didn't have and in a sense cheating another team out of promotion.

I'm starting to think "parachute payments" do more harm than good. It gives teams relegated from the Premier League an unfair advantage the following season and seemingly encourages them to spend even more in order to reach the promised land. They'll have "parachute parachute" payments for teams relegated to league one next and then after a while it will be parachutes all the way down.

That's what many people said when Hitler threatened Czechoslovakia in 1938.

It was hardly not giving a shit. Chamberlain sent Runciman and met with Hitler himself to discuss and agree the cessation of the Sudetenland and there was a conference between Daladier, the French Prime Minister in Munich which ended in the agreement that Germany would occupy the Sudetenland and that they had no intention to invade anywhere else. It was an attempt at maintaining the peace.

Chamberlain talked about a 'faraway country of which we know nothing'.

Looks like the players have had enough and i don't blame them. The game seems to be awash with w@nkers like Ken Anderson, buying clubs then fleecing them for what they can get.

They need to be getting very harsh on the contracts. Get relegated and your wages drop by half. Ok you might not get the players but then so what. The parachute payments should half each year out of the league. Parachute payments allow clubs to sign players on stupid fees on long term contracts. Just inflates the market

Statement from their chairman about the prospective owner is a bit of an eye opener. If true makes Rahic sound almost sane.
