Yep.. we go to Leeds once a month and guess what

There's stag and hen dos at 2pm while the shops are full... Remember those days

You need to book most resteraunts and reserve tables in bars

I went to nightrain in Bradford new year Eve and Bradford was dead... We got kicked out of city vaults 7pm because they was shutting early... Sunbridge wells dead... North parade... Dead

Last time I'll do that... We get a wowcher deal and stop in a hotel or it's £25 in an Uber to Leeds

    Different world mate

Meanwhile we have businesses on North Parade, the one spot in town that attracts footfall especially on matchday, complaining about roadworks and paving that still hasn't been finished after 6 months. Its almost like the council doesn't want anyone to visit Bradford....

Ah the green lights beckoned! Happy days. That used to be my regular as well. Mr Khan was very proud of his microwave behind the counter I remember.

Could I seek some advice too....aiming to get the 17.40 train from Shipley back across to Carnforth. What's the best bet for getting back up the road after the match? Bus from Manningham Lane or sort a taxi to collect us from somewhere along Midland Road towards the A6177/Queens Road just after 5?

I'll have my 10 year old with me so a slightly calmer day in store compared to last season when I had a good sup around North Parade etc.

    Cheers

If the match finishes as late as 16.55 then you have a lot of time.

    Cushty Rodders, cushty.

Presumably the buses etc all run on time in the middle of post-match traffic and whatnot? It’s not really an issue for our home games :)

Alternatively, if you go to Forster Sq Station (about a ten minute walk from the ground done quickly) there is a train to Shipley at 17.11 and another at 17.30. The latter only leaves you three minutes to change platform in Shipley and you will be going from platform 3 to platform 2 which is quite a hike.

Traffic on Manningham Lane is absolute carnage at that time I'm afraid. You need the A3 Bus to Otley, which you can get from the end of Grosvenor Road (come out of the Midland Rd Stand, turn right, girst right and walk up Holywell Ash Rd, Right onto Manningham Lane and Grosvenor Road is about 200 yards on on your left). It leaves at 17.08 and takes 20 minutes to Shipley Market Sq, from there the station is about a 3 minute walk.

I must admit I go the opposite way and drive. It is about 25 minutes in total on the bus/walk from the ground to Shipley, but that would be an optimum conditions journey.

The distance to Shipley Station is about 3 miles. So factor that in even if you were to get a Taxi.

An alternative is to walk smartish to Forster Square Station. There is a train at 17.11 to Shipley, where you can change. It is about a 15 minute walk from the Midland Road/Holywell Ash Lane area to Forster Square. A bit tight, but you should be able to do do it if the game finishes around 4.50.

Cheers all - the other buggeration factor for the Forster Square option is Northern trains behaving themselves and running on time. I think Ukrainian railways have better performance stats than what Northern manage over this side of the hills.

We’re heading to Leeds in the morning so i’ll time the walk from Forster Square to the ground on the way up. I’s be confident of doing it in 10 minutes myself but my daughter’s only got little legs :)

Mind, if we leave after 80 minutes when Cooky puts you 3 up we’ll have no worries…

Back in 2002, I had my wedding reception at the Midland Hotel. I vaguely remember that at the time it was thought of as a smart hotel and one of the better venues in Bradford, before Bradford really went to the dogs.

I went back for the first time since just before Christmas to attend a dinner disco thing for a Friends birthday party. It looked like it hadn't had as much as lick of paint since. When we arrived I ordered a pint of lager, which was clearly off and had to be swapped. When I went back for a second, the barman asked 'is it OK in the same glass'. FFS. I asked for a clean one, and the same guy asked the same question then next 2 times I went for another drink. My wife's chair had to be swapped twice because the one put out and its replacement were damaged. A single course of turkey dinner that was awful and dressed in Beef gravy, then the DJ cam over to explain that the disco wouldn't be taking place because they were catering for a large group of elderly coach tourists from Holland who wanted a quiet evening. I'm not exaggerating, it was a text book case in how not to provide a service. We couldn't wait to finish and catch the train to Leeds. We were in Leeds by 8.30pm and it was like being in a different country.

Its heartbreaking really - Bradford has been left to rot. As soon as my lad finishes school in 3 years, we're off.

3 minutes to go from platform 3 to platform 1 isn't a safe margin with a young child in tow.

Bradford and Leeds are basically the same city with two authorities. How can a city the size of leeds have so much investment, buildings going up everywhere, bars, restaurants and the lot? Its because its actually a city of 1.2million or so. Half my workplace are from bradford, yet we are in central leeds. The migration of people from bradford to leeds every day to go to work is the biggest in europe. The positive side of this is that just like in London when an area of a city, in this case leeds, becomes too expensive, the investment starts to flow to underdeveloped areas which should see bradford grow and improve in the next two decades.
