Only been to Akbars 3 times with work colleagues. I personally think it is the most overrated one I've been to in Bradford area. Also they lace the food with far too much salt

 

I agree. It may have changed since I've been, but like you I found everything too salty. Also the restaurant seemed extremely noisy to me, difficult to converse with your fellow diners. I don't like sitting in silence, a nice buzz is good in a restaurant but it all seemed a bit manic.

 

I haven’t been for years. I think it must be a matter of taste but I concur with your assessment of the place. I have been in friends and family groups and the place is noisy. Lots of my friends and family love the place, so there you go. My favourite is the Keighley Shimla Spice. The curry houses have swamped diversity of different types and cultures of food in Bradford.

 

Put it this way, I haven’t lost any sleep over his loan, he wasn’t playing …that says he wasn’t good enough.
However don’t let a jolly good slating get in the way of hard truths. Odd how Hughes and Hodges think the same isnt it and they are certainly more experienced than I .

 

Agreed. It's some years since I went but I thought it was well overrated. The Shimla Spice in Shipley has always been way better.

 

Akbars to me always feels like you are on a conveyor belt. Always busy but the food comes so quickly, feels like they just want you in and out...NEXT. Food was OK though. Shimla Spice my favourite too.

Same one. We went after Xmas to the one in town, and my dopey daughter (who was meeting us there) ended up at the new one on Sticker Lane !

 

Shimla is great for starters, but I find the curries a bit bland.

 

You should always ask for them Asian or Desi style - they ramp them up a bit

 

Desi meat & spinach karahi is anything but bland. The desi fish karahi is good too.

I'm actually in the Shimla Spice at the moment and about to enjoy my meat & spinach karahi.

 

Can you pick me up some samosas while your there thanks in advance

I used to go when it was just one shop on Leeds Road. It's changed a lot since then, in my eyes it just caters for the masses now rather than the individual touch, last time I went was a year or two back for a Christmas do and it all felt mass produced.

 

I remember many moons ago in a curry house on Leeds Rd, a hand appeared from a trap door in the floor with your food.

 

Isn't it mad that 15 minutes away from F1 race circuit of Leeds road you are in the centre of another city that is completely different to the one you are leaving.
