Of course he can! 2 run outs in a week is not too much for somebody in their 30s. If it was every single week and we had other decent options then you may have a point but definitely not having that. Athletes are very fit in their 30s these days compared to 10+ years ago.

 

Because we booked early and have friends and family railcard it was £17.15 each way for Adults and £4.95 for under 16.

Did you go to the Preston cup game? Akpan was a disgrace. He strolled around, avoided challenges, never showed for the ball and on the few occasions he touched it he played kop out sideways or backward passes with no attempt to create anything positive. He simply didn't look interested. And I say this as someone who stuck up for him at times last season when others were giving him stick.

There's no way he should get in ahead of Danny Devine, who at least puts himself about. I'd love us to get Akpan off our books but, sadly, I can't see anyone coming in for him so I fear we're stuck with him stealing a wage until his contract expires.

 

Except that Devine, Anderson and Colville, for all their limitations, do actually look like they are interested. They get forward, they track back, they make tackles. Akpan did none of those against Preston. He just wandered around as far away from the action as possible. He really might as well have not been there.
I've seen Akpan play well. He can pick a pass, he can head, he can drive forward with the ball. He's doing none of those things at present. He's stealing a wage.

Cant agree with that mate, they put us under more pressure than any team has done so far this season, we had to defend well tonight, wait till we get a couple of new players in midfield .

 

A gritty sounding performance to bring home the 3 points. Its midweek performances where you have to grind out results at places like this, that can be the difference between challenging for promotion or not. These are the sort of games where in the past we would have been lucky to come away with a point

 

He really did. He needs to stay in the side as a left back and we need to add some proper midfield quality.

 

Out midfield didn't exist tonight. Why on earth we can't just pass the ball to each other. I know some times a clearance is needed but every ball went long.

 

I think if he plays left back we lose some of his crossing ability which is a shame because lets be honest all our good moments tonight came from his crosses or corners. Right now, with this team we need to maximise the number of crosses he can make.

 

Great win, but certainly not a good performance on the ball. But everyone to a man(except Akpan) worked their backsides off. Not easy 10 v 11 but we survived.
