The central midfield area is woeful. Reeves needs benching at best and Taylor needs releasing. Cooke should be playing with a midfield enforcer type that can prevent the opposition running 25 yards with the ball straight down the middle of the pitch.

as manager Bowyer will ultimately take the responsibility for the performance and result but Pritchard and O'Connor need to both ask themselves why they didn't compete for headers on the first goal, Connor Wood needs to ask himself why he let Nicky Maynard walk 3 yards away from him and have a free header practically on the goal-line and Kelvin Mellor (i think it was) needs to ask himself why he let a simple throw in come 20 yards and his man turn and shout without even the sniff of a challenge for the third.

4411, yes. Then in a wonderful display of managerial improvisation, at 2-0 down we threw on an extra defender and went 532.

This isnt about formations though. Players often get off easy and elements of our defeat today were about basic individual errors and a lack of application to match the work rate of Mansfield. This is much deeper though. It's been patently obvious for weeks, that this team isnt being coached into a cohesive unit. He constantly changes formation and team selections - most of which are baffling. There's no evidence at all that we know what we're trying to do with the ball, which is why we're regularly seeing fewer shots on goal than our opponent and often little to no shots on target. The most prolific striker in europe hasnt had a chance in 4 games.

If the system and coaching style of the manager is consistently inhibiting the players, it leads to a lack of engagement and desire, which is what we're seeing. That's why I lay the blame squarely at Bowyers door. Every player is regressing in performance and confidence. The collective performance of the team is going backwards and looking more and more disjointed. The players look lost and confused.

The manager has to go. Simple as that.

I think Rhodes will be on the phone to Rupp tonight to discuss this. When this season comes to its "bitter end" in May as it surely will. Bowyer will leave; he is not going to get another crack at this in League 2 next season. So the simple question is: given the clear evidence have we anything at all to lose (maybe a few quid?) But anything at all to lose football wise by sacking Bowyer & Dreary ? . Ans: No ! so I reckon he wont be in that dugout on Tuesday night and Rhodes will be picking the phone up to ask Stuart to take us on from here. We get the bounce factor; he gets a few days to do a couple of deals in and out l; puts sn arm round the players particularly Doyle and the place is rocking again. Right now thats the best plan for the football club.
