And the key bit here is "the club have today formally notified the EFL they are unable to fulfil the fixture".

And Radio Leeds have confirmed, in the last 10 minutes, Grimsby Town are being investigated by the EFL over the circumstances surrounding the postponement.

It could well be construed as a cynical move, to manipulate the current pandemic, in an attempt to either derail the season, which is in line with their Chairman’s view, or at the very least delay matches until they have all players available for selection.

On testing at this level if clubs cannot afford is it not about time the players went to the PFA and demanded they do something to protect them? They are being asked to play on during this pandemic with no real support now. Fine we all are as workers but it’s like a footballer can work from home for example.

The pfa pay its chief executive 2 million a year. They have a lot of money and need to step up and protect their members. Could they not fund all tests for this season for those that need it? Maybe take a little bit extra back over the next few season to pay it back but what are they actually doing currently?

Spot on How. I wrote to Dave Baldwin on just this last week. The PFA have £55 mill in the bank and their Charter specifically calls on them to protect their members.
I calculated that 72 EFL clubs with 50 tests each every week for 15 weeks (let's hope no longer at this stage) would cost £5.4 mill at £100 a shot or 10% of their Bank balance which goes up all the time with what they collect from members. Not heard back yet.

Many already have, although most not due to a player loaned out at another club. Difference being other clubs tested and isolated the positives and played on where possible. Grimsby had one positive and he was loaned out at another club, who actually kept on playing. If you can’t see why that’s wrong then there’s no helping you. The season won’t finish and clubs will go under as a result if they’re allowed to act as Grimsby have.

    We weren't poor. No way.

It was mostly a scrappy game on a difficult, greasy pitch. But 90% of winning points in this league is purely about being organised, winning first and second balls, working hard and everyone knowing their job. Minimising mistakes. Then you make the moments count. We did the ugly stuff well, we took our chances and deserved the win. We were never under the cosh really, ROD was comfortable.

We now have a proper platform going into January.

another solid win where we won by doing the basics well and scoring two worldies. If trueman gets the job now its imperative we have a recruitment bod lined up, as whilst hes good with on field stuff we haven't seen any of what hes like in the transfer market. For me I think we should keep him with the youth now and look to build a medium to long term pathway for him to manage us, provided he continues to do the business whoever he's in charge of. clearly a talented tactician and coach so one for the future. If we can bring him through at the same time as a large crop of youngsters that would be ideal.

This. An acknowledgement that it isn't always defenders that need to do the defending which was also visible in the subs that were made. Donaldson and Guthrie were excellent out balls and killed the game when needed. Evans covered Wood at key moments and the French sub added some fresh legs at a key time. All were timed exactly when needed.

Just to echo what @NorthernMonkey@NorthernMonkey said earlier in the thread as well, the fact we aren't finding ourselves a goal or two down halfway through the first half is so important. It means we aren't chasing the game so have extra energy at the end of the game. It allows the forwards to relax in front of goal.

That is credit to Trueman & Sellars who have simplified each player's role. Elliot Watt for example isn't having to mix defensive work as well as being this quarter back, he's just a central midfielder. Connor Wood isn't some overlapping wing back covering the whole left hand side, he's just a left back. Anthony O'Connor isn't being asked to be some overlapping centre back, just be a hard to beat b*stard central defender with your other b*stard central defender mate Paudie. Billy Clarke, don't be this deep lying forward who gets inbetween the lines, just sit out on the right wing where there is some space. Its simple stuff but exactly what the players needed.

Cancel games because of a Covid positive and the season will never end. Got to make your training grounds Covid secure, teach your players good hygiene, stop them going out to pubs and bars and get on with it even if it means lots of testing or playing the youth team .

So Stevenage have more players out and less notice but have to play, nah stinks from both Grimsby and the EFL make the feckers play. Watch them sign about 5 players by the time we actually play them. Another Tuesday night game to fit into an already tight schedule.

Yes it was them. It stinks does this. Their chairman has been pushing his agenda for weeks and months now and the fact that they're the only club to have postponed games when other clubs have been able to get on with it, speaks volumes. Add in their poor start to the season and their long injury list and it all starts to look a little convenient.

I very much doubt their case is any different to that of Stevenage's but the EFL have made a rod for their own back with this decision as clubs will now be able to call games off whenever they want so long as they have one positive test. Season will never finish after this decision.

Ridiculous calling this off. Yorkshire ccc had 4 players unavailable due to the virus two weeks ago but still played on, as did Stevenage on Saturday. It’s just playing politics by the Grimsby chairman, EFL should get tough and award Cheltenham and ourselves 3 points for unnecessary postponement. If every club carry on like Grimsby the season will be chaos.

With the next league match now being on Monday 12 October, we can at least use the EFL Trophy game, on Tuesday 6 October, to give our first team a run out.

There's also a possibility of bringing forward the home match v Cheltenham Town, scheduled to be played on Tuesday 1 December, if Cheltenham's match at Leyton Orient on Saturday is also postponed.

If the EFL carries on agreeing to postpone matches this easily, there will need to be a lot of fixture juggling, if we are going to keep this season going.

Surely If you are unable to fulfil your fixture requirements you should forfeit the game. Postponing a game because a player who is actually on loan elsewhere has tested positive stinks. Your chairman is causing embarrassment to your football club

I might have some sympathy for Grimsby if their chairman wasn't calling for the league to be suspended. Maybe it is wrong to jump to conclusions, but imo, the evidence as it stands suggests there could be ulterior motives at play.
