Could this be the first of many going this way?

Gives us chance to get some players in at least

Forgive me, but why does one one positive test call a game off in L2, but three positive tests for West Ham and they can still carry on as normal?

I really don’t get it either. This is the problem with EFL clubs stopping testing now. Wrong time to do it really.
However seems a convenient ploy from Grimsby. looked poor so far losing two games and Holloway moaning about lack of signings and injuries. Now got a 10 day break? Hmmm

EFL opened an investigation. Best team on the job and all that

Cancel games because of a Covid positive and the season will never end. Got to make your training grounds Covid secure, teach your players good hygiene, stop them going out to pubs and bars and get on with it even if it means lots of testing or playing the youth team .

Grimsby game off because of a change in protocol from the EFL about having to close the training ground for 14 days. I don't see how this is going to work if this is what happens every time there is a positive test. How can a team that haven't been able to train together for 2 weeks be match ready?

Doing City no favours if both Grimsby and Stevenage are postponed- when do we play them as we will be sliding down the table and think of the old folk like Doyle and Donaldson, they need to be nursed through the season and not playing twice in a week.
I would be happy with being awarded a 1-0 victory for both games.

    Makes no sense....

Grimsby 1 player tests positive they call off next 2 league game self isolate with no body else tested.

Stevenage 1 player tests positive they do not call any games off yet but test everyone.

Put that down to what appears to be unclear guidance from the EFL. If the rules were clear the owner of Stevenage wouldn't be requesting clarity.

I get the impression Grimsby may have unilateraly called the match off, a risky move on their part if they have. Stevenage seem to have referred the issue to the EFL which, if that's what they have done, seems to be the right way to go about things.

    Solutions
    1. If Stevenage won't get the other test results back until tomorrow morning, the EFL should explore (with the Clubs) the possibility of switching the match to Sunday.
    2. Reverse the Grimsby fixtures and play next week's match at Valley Parade.
    Simples.

I guess it might depend on the situation around when its discovered they have it and the likelihood that they have passed it onto others in the squad. If Grimsby feel there is a chance that the player has passed it on and thus playing the match there is a chance that it will get spread to the other team there is little choice but if its like the WH situation where WH were pretty certain the players and Moyes hadn't had contact with others so as to pass it on then the risk is probably considered small.

BTW do we actually know for certain the Grimsby match is off? Would be useful to know so the next prediction league thread posts the correct details and not the Grimsby game

    Couldn't agree more.

Mandatory tracking on their phones, 1 month suspension if rules violated, if they're going to have to isolate when a team mate tests positive, why not isolate 'in house' - training ground, home, training ground, home, the 'strategy' is embarrassing.

There is no 'strategy'. The EFL need to issue clear guidelines ASAP about what the protocol is should a player/s and/or club staff test positive. Until that happens, it's going to continue to be a complete shambles.

Certainly seems the EFL are taking their lead from the government on that front.

It's no wonder I see quite a bit of conspiracy crap on my social media timelines... those people just need to accept that those running the country/world are morons making it up as they go along!

The Grimsby chairman was interviewed two days before the positive test, complaining about the cost of testing and bigging up the 'covid clause' they have put in new players contracts, plus mentioning that all the players were on a reduced wage until they started training full time again. I don't know about tactical postponements, but the cynic in me does wonder if this is a crafty way for them to try and save a few bob on wages for a couple of weeks.

I see the Grimsby Chairman is now calling for the season to be suspended! I must confess I am totally confused as to why Grimsby squad is sel-isolating, but Stevenage aren't! EFL need to issue some strong and clear guidance, with NHS or Dept. of Health invovolvement ASAP.

Plus not start the season badly and be trying to play catch up while worrying about potential relegation!
