Surely there is time for all the Grimsby staff to get either a private or indeed NHS testing and the results to be known before next Saturday? If there are 15+ players who are COVID free, get on with the game. If Grimsby are planning to have four games postponed, that seems ridiculous, if there is no evidence that other members of the squad have the condition.

The chairman doesn't want to pay for testing, that's what's behind all of this.

SM said on the radio that the EFL should pay for weekly testing to help clubs out financially and to keep the hope of completing the season a real one.

‘everyone in England, Scotland, Wales* and Northern Ireland who is showing coronavirus symptoms is eligible to book a swab test to find out if they have the virus’.
If they are not showing symptoms, then they only need to self isolate for 10 days. https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/self-isolation-and-treatment/how-long-to-self-isolate/ r

According to Grimsby, they stated on 25/9/2020, ‘with the squad last being in contact with the player three days ago’, i.e. 22/9/2020. https://www.grimsby-townfc.co.uk/news/2020/september/club-statement/ Then depending on wether or not you count the actual 22/9/2020 as one of the days, the self isolation period ends on either the 1st or 2nd October 2020. The game is scheduled for Saturday 3rd October. At a push it could be put back 24 hours.

It is 14 days if told by track and trace due to being with someone who has tested positive

My lad has to self isolate for 14 days after one of his class at college caught the virus. Only needs a test if he shows symptoms.

More stuff from the Grimsby site. ‘The club did consider testing the squad today however, the medical advice received was that such testing would be of no effect as the incubation period of the virus being a minimum of five days, with the squad last being in contact with the player three days ago’.
Given the five days clause, then as that statement was made yesterday. By Monday six days will have passed.

The EFL should give the option of playing the game or forfeiting the 3 points

I think the EFL need to be more organised/flexible in terms of called off games. E.g if two games get called off because one team has positive Covid 19 cases, why don't the two teams who don't have cases play each other instead? Saving fixture congestion down the road.

Are we being awarded the three points then since Grimsby are clearly so desperate not to play?

Was it Grimsby who were trying to insert clauses into the player contracts, where they received next to now pay, if football is suspended again?

So Stevenage have more players out and less notice but have to play, nah stinks from both Grimsby and the EFL make the feckers play. Watch them sign about 5 players by the time we actually play them. Another Tuesday night game to fit into an already tight schedule.

Yes it was them. It stinks does this. Their chairman has been pushing his agenda for weeks and months now and the fact that they're the only club to have postponed games when other clubs have been able to get on with it, speaks volumes. Add in their poor start to the season and their long injury list and it all starts to look a little convenient.

I very much doubt their case is any different to that of Stevenage's but the EFL have made a rod for their own back with this decision as clubs will now be able to call games off whenever they want so long as they have one positive test. Season will never finish after this decision.

I really do feel we need to be very vocal about this and demand an explanation from the EFL, they had zero first team players effected by it, it was a young lad out on loan. We had our two first choice CBs suspended, can we just get games called off until we can get replacements in? @wetherbywhaler@wetherbywhaler will the club be going further with this?

Yeah this all doesn't seem right and is extremely worrying for the rest of the season. Grimsby seem to have their own agenda and are using 'medical advice' as a cover. Obviously everyone needs to be safe but at some point we need to get on with life or there will be even more severe consequences for everyone and not just football clubs.

I do hope I am wrong on this and there is some information that hasn't been released and that this was in fact a sensible decision but it doesn't seem that way.

Didn't they say that they weren't getting the rest of the squad tested due to a 5 day incubation period? Well tomorrow will mark 5 days, surely could get tested then and they would then know if they can play at the weekend?

Actually that is not true, Walsall versus Leyton Orient was postponed last weekend. However Orient have several players who have tested positive, rather than one player, who is on loan at a none league club. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/54282703
