You’re seeing a very different team to me. I think we’ll be nearer the botttom than the top - we’re lacking in so many areas. Yes, the defensive will was better after we went down to 9 men, but the main reason we took a point was because FGR were awful too. We’re so bad defensively - we give away too many silly free kicks around our own box, we don’t defend set pieces properly, we don’t clear our lines properly. We don’t really create anything, there’s no width or penetration to our play, no pace up front. We’re awful - and yes its an awful league, but even so, we won’t be near the top end of it because we’re nowhere near solid enough. Look at yesterday - the first goal comes from a silly and soft free kick that our wall then doesn’t do its job on. 2 mins later, AOC is caught out by a basic long ball behind him, then he waits until he’s in the box and last man to rugby tackle his man. We got out of jail with the missed penalty, but then their 2nd comes after we miss 2 opportunities to clear our lines when under no pressure. It’s basic stuff. Staunton has some promise, but none of our other centre backs are good enough to be part of a promotion chasing side. And when you’re a side that doesn’t score many, you can’t be flaky at the back.

How was any player in the upfront 5 supposed to excel in his role when he's not sure what it is? I'm not gonna bag Ismail or the others yesterday for having to adapt to a completely new formation so early in the season. Baffling lineup.

 

It isn't about just the one person though, it's 4 or 5 out of position which is ludicrous when on the Friday he's taking about having a full squad to select from.

If Bowyer had selected that team there'd have been people rightly questioning it so while McCalls currently has a free pass with some, that surely can't last forever.

 

On his showings so far he's a poor player, and I'll go a little further I don't rate DMH who Stuart brought back, hope he proves me wrong.

Listening to Andy Kiwomya trying to figure out the formation is painful.

Anybody with Ifollow able to shed any light on it?

 

If he wanted to play this formation then switching Wood to where Guthrie is playing then bringing in Cooke or Pritchard to the midfield would have been more sensible to me. In fact both and taking out Clarke because Clarke's lack of defensive ability in a midfield three is a serious weakness

 

It's not really a surprise that we're not playing that well when we've rocked up with a random formation we've not played in any kind of match recently.
