I didn't see it that way myself, not suggesting for one minute anyone was great on the day but if nothing else Guthrie did a job when we went down to 10 and then 9 defending high ball in, Mccall knew what was coming and kept Guthrie on, were as Zeli offered nothing.

It isn't about just the one person though, it's 4 or 5 out of position which is ludicrous when on the Friday he's taking about having a full squad to select from.

If Bowyer had selected that team there'd have been people rightly questioning it so while McCalls currently has a free pass with some, that surely can't last forever.

 

I suppose one positive is that this league looks even worse than last year. We've played Bolton, Colchester and FGR, who would expect to be up there, and remained unbeaten and probably deservedly so. Thats with a squad lacking in quality throughout the pitch and not creating very much either.

3 or 4 signings of real quality will transform this side into one that could challenge.

 

I think we will only get 2 more and be left short. Hopefully get some movement this week with no midweek game

 

That is the likely scenario given how we recruit. Couple of additions are absolutely vital this week, can't wait any longer.

 

It was a poor performance with IMO Zeli offering little, we can talk formations all day but he was asked to play on the right of the 4 midfield and support the front two, which he failed to do, not play as a defensive midfield player, having said that the second half effort after losing ACO and then POC the remaining 9 have to be given some credit for their dogged defensive display.

 

Why do you keep mentioning the formation? I haven't mentioned it once in my replies.

I'm talking about the self made problem of playing players out of position, I couldn't care less what the formation was.

 

If McCall does not want to play Zeli as an out and out winger his natural position , then I'd suggest he's playing him a different formation wouldn't you ?.

 

I can't remember now, but after the game, McCall said something about certain things having to happen, if players are going to be coming in to the club. Almost sounded as though we're going to have to shift some players, to get some in. Can't find a link to the aftermatch interview on BBC Leeds to make sure, but I remember at the time thinking, hmm that sounds a bit odd.

To be fair, I've read a lot of questioning of Stuart's team selection, tactics, and positional selections.

I think we can safely put to bed this idea Stuart is getting a free pass - there will always be people defending him, but there were always people defending Bowyer, Rahic, etc.

 

Yes, he talked about players leaving or going out on loan although I didn't connect it to mean that some need to go out for others to come in.

 

From what I remember of what he said, it could also be interpreted that the respective clubs of the players we are interested in might be waiting on incoming players arriving before they are prepared to let the one we want go.

 

More likely, very few takers for the likes of Ismail, Guthrie and Donaldson I imagine.

 

We turned down two offers for guthrie this summer. Let that sink in.
