I don't know why Platt didn't start I could understand it if Taylor possess something Platt doesn't pace, we know what we get from Platt steady away league two defender, surely Taylor didn't get the nod because he has a long throw, early days yet but I did expected a positive result yesterday, if he's fit I would hope our two CD will be Stubbs and Platt at Accrington.

 

I think the rumours about platt leaving are true that's the only explanation I can give other than Hughes is thick as fog. The sad thing is Hughes has his favourites that he won't drop so if fit Taylor will start. It's detrimental to his ego if he changes things that fans see.

 

Come on. He can't be worse than Jason Gavin.

Gillead was better than him last season. He needs dropping for a bit but given the wage he’s on, and fact he’a skipper, it’s a very tough call for Hughes

 

I went to the pre season friendly against Hull City and I thought he was down grade on what we had and infact I tried to Kidd myself he was injured or even unfit when the Hull striker beat him for pace

 

Jason Gavin is up there with the worst I've ever seen. I won't make my final judgement on Taylor after just the 1 game, but as a debut it really couldn't have been much worse! Regardless of whether he's injured or not, Platt to replace him on Tues and Sat is a no brainer.

 

If football fans can't tell a really shit player when they see one even if it's a 10 min cameo then maybe they should just sit in the house and watch soccer Saturday.

Ash Taylor isn't a professional football as long as there's still oxygen to breathe. And it's been visible all throughout pre season

 

I dont bother with pre season at all so can't comment, and I agree the early signs dont look great but it takes more than 1 game (good or bad) before I will make a final judgement on a player. At the end of the day we've given him a contract so for our sake I hope he goes on to prove people wrong, although in all honesty Im not optimistic

 

This is part of the problem l, by the time people realise players aren't good enough and we've given the team 37 games to gel its all far too late. Hughes and Gent need to realise they've really messed up and go cap in hand to Sparks and probably Rupp and beg to expand the budget and go fill these glaringly obvious issues.

 

Thats fair comment. Initial impressions are that the defence certainly appears on the face of it to be weaker than last season. I think we will see more coming in before the end of August but as to whether they will address what we need remains to be seen

 

More coming in before the end of August is all well and good but they haven't really got a great track record for signings.

Yeah I posted on another thread that theres certainly been more Misses than Hits in recent times but Im still hopeful that we'll get it right. If we end up with the likes of Costello and Nevers again then I do fear this will be a long and painful season

Ok so he's looked poor, but you don't get to play 450 professional games without being at least half capable. On that basis, you probably need to get yourself an oxygen tank.

 

To be slighter fairer on Gavin yes agreed he was poor but if my memories correct he was poor at Championship level where as Taylor is poor at L2 level!!! Gavin may have been a good player if in L2??

 

Ha ha quite possibly but he was so bad I've tried to erase him from my memory! Seriously, I think the biggest problem with Gavin was that he came with a good reputation but turned out to be shockingly bad!

 

Hello again boys. Cobblers fan Manny is back again. Ash Taylor is the worst central defender that we had at Sixfields for years. FACT. has he started running around flapping his arms blaming everbody else for his foul ups yet? Cos he will FACT. and has his lady started throwing a strop on facebook/ twatter yet? Cos she will FACT.
And the little scamp Sammy Hoskins was clearly the best player in league two last year. You cant argue with FACTS.
